Changing the background on my ChatRoulette clone site

Hi all,

I'm starting a chat roulette site and I wanted to hire a freelancer for a couple things.

Design a logo.

Design a background that integrates cleanly with the above logo and the chat window in the center.

I can actually switch the background image of the site myself, but I'm unsure what to ask for as the background image is a very weird size, basically a black vertical line. My site on the other hand appears as a plain white background.

Once I figure out what size background image will work and 'fit' with my centered cam section, I'd like to run at design contest for a logo and the background image at a fair price. So help determining what exactly I'm asking for with this 1x829 .jpg background image would be greatly appreciated.

And also, advice on what a fair price for a catchy new background image and logo would be. I'm a disabled combat vet and single Dad, so to say I'm bootstrapping this is an understatement.

Oh, the test site is at ne1up dot net - once I get a pretty logo and background I'll put it up on the main .com, which is a landing page that has just been collecting emails.
