Yes .. it's a better alternative than most of the newer "generic" TLD's ... however .. from the information I've been seeing, .net is soft at the moment .. which puts downwards pressure on prices as a general rule of thumb (with the occasional lucky exceptions). The difference with .net and something like a .co is the likely acquisition cost ... meaning that while the .net might be worth a little more .. you could probably pick up the .co a bit cheaper and give you a higher margin.
That being said .. I think brushfire.net is a really good one .. if it was picked up cheap then it's a good investment!
