Blog XML Feed URL

I just joined another unrelated VBulletin forum and they have installed this very cool "Blog XML Feed URL" hack which links direclty to a member's recent blog entry. Very sexy stuff! Any chance of getting it installed here on NamePros?

Even if so, you would need extra management for sure, to keep an eye on things....

It's not like that. The hack places a small & simple text link to your latest blog entry right underneath your username (or next to it.)

Can I maybe setup a simple poll somewhere to see if members would be interested? Which forum would be best for that?

If we can add it tastefully, I don't see a problem adding this feature. Given the layout of our postbit, I'd rather see it underneight the signature lines than under the username.

I understand 100% that you need to keep the layout clean and professional. If it is implemented, it really doesn't matter to me where it goes, it's just a very cool feature to have no matter where you decide to position it.

I think most members either already have a blog or are planning to get one going in the very near future.

Attached is a screenshot of how digitalpoint has it implemented. They have a different layout for posts, so like I said we'd have to find a different spot for it.

I've worked with XML feeds before, but not specifically those from blogs. Would this be something that you think could be updated once a day, rather than having to check your feed every time a post is displayed? I'm trying to think this out what the best way to implement is.

The way they have it implemented over @ DP, it's automatic. I use blogger so as long as my XML file is up to date then the link in the forum stays up to date.

Or maybe I didn't understand your question?

It's more that I'm thinking outloud.

I know its automatic, but I can't imagine that when you view a thread at DP that it would make a connection to each user's blog to grab the latest entry title. That would cause the thread to load extremely slow. It would have to be setup to periodically check blog entries for all blogging users and store the headline and link to the database. Maybe once a day, or a few times a day it would do the actual connection to your blog.

I hear (read) what you are saying. I wish I could offer more insight but I don't use VBulletin for my forums so I don't have the technical experience. I agree: checking each users XML file every time a user posted a message would slow things down so they must have it setup so that it checks periodically. The DP forum is fast so whatever it is, it's working great.
