Hi,

I have decided to switch to a new webhost. I need to migrate a couple of blogs to my new host without losing the blog article/posts age. Sorry if this is a really easy question but I have not had success with it when trying one of my sites. I am using both wordpress and b2evolution. Also, is there a way to switch from one to the other platforms while saving blog article/posts age. Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers :xf.love:

Thats not that hard. Most hosts will do it for free. Contact your protential hosts and ask them. I'm not sure about switching to the other platform but honestly both are great software and I wouldn't recommend it because you may loose functionality. If its only a few posts copy and paste works great.

don't you just have to make sure both versiosn of the blog are installed at the same level of upgrade and then upload the database? Then delete the old database and add the new one renaming it the old name?

I'd d oit cPanel to cPanel transfer if both hosts had cPanel its alot eassier and then it transfers emails and other domains ect. at the same time.

just download all physical files and databases, then reupload them to the new host account and connect the database - not too hard - you don't even need a cpanel to cpanel transfer although that's easier and more convenient lol

and as andy said, contact your host and see if they can move it for you. Doesn't take too long.

Good luck.

Its pretty easy of you use wordpress. If you goto http://www.wordpress.org it gives you complete details on blog migration.

Well I prefer moving files by my self and its not hard,

01. download all files and upload them to new host
02. export the mySQL dataBase and then import it to new DataBase in new host
03. Update data base info on wp-config and reupload it to new host

As it turns out my new webhost is eager to help move all files. I do have one blog that I need to extract the database and send to a customer who bought the site.. I have already sent all the site files, I just need the database moved. Can someone please elaborate on this step?

If you're running cPanel, then you have access to a tool called phpmyadmin, go into this tool and do a database dump of the MySQL files. Otherwise, if the person who purchased the site has cPanel, you can simply login and get a backup of the MySQL DB from the backup tool.

I think that is doesn't matter at all what you are moving. Denver is right. make sure what control panels are used and move that

Also you will have to update wp-config file with new data base details.

I suppose that you can install blog in new place and do dumb of database.

Let your host do the transfer for you. Most webhosts are kind enough to migrate your files and databases. Knownhost.com, for instance, helped me a lot on this process.
