My partners and I bought Bing.com a few years ago as part of a branding strategy for a consumer product we no longer intend to pursue. A few weeks ago, I pointed the domain to another site I own announcing the sale of the domain with the intention of researching the best way to go about it. I stated that offers over $50k (arbitrary number) would be considered to cut down on all the inquiries I received BEFORE the announcement... and without any further effort, I got a seemingly legitimate offer--after a couple of phone conversations--for $25k from a startup venture. (I am aware of the scams and how to do good-funds money transfers and we also have a legal team to deal with the particulars.)

I have not had the chance to give much consideration to what the current market value of the domain. For what it's worth, I have seen over 1800 hits to that page since i moved it to the new page on April 26 with no real promotion of the domain since it has been in my control. You good folks seem very knowledgeable about such things. What do you thing bing.com is worth?

If they offered 25K then they will likely go to 40-50K, so work on them a bit. You likely won't get much more than that; however, it does have a nice ring to it. You have probably found your best type of buyer...assuming the offer is legit, so get as much as you can and then get out of Dodge. Also, be careful about discussing strategy on these boards....it isn't too far-fetched to expect these buyers to be lurking somewhere around here. No need to give them the roadmap.

I would list it at www.sedo.com for sale - they should be able to advise you of it's potential but it could easily be around $100k up IMO - sedo are pretty much the most popular place for domains to sell and have hundreds of big sales under their belt - don't try and handle this one on your own as you may potentially loose thousands IMO.

They take 10% of the sale and manage it in a safe secure way for both you and the buyer - It should get listed in their showcase domains no problem.

4 letter pronouncable .com's are very desireable and you will receive many offers there for sure.

It is free to list it for sale :)

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

I may beg to differ on the Sedo case. Commission of 10% in a company that size is a lot, with no marketing to endusers done.

With your intentions, and knowledge of your domain I would handle the name yourself. Don't be afraid to ask for the price you want, but I would not have valued this name as high as the numbers you have stated. BUT I am not a targeted enduser, and for them this could be a great deal.

Make sure you use Escrow.com or another suitable service for transferring the payment and name and please contact me, or another user, off the board if you want more advice on the name, but do not want to discuss where the potential buyers may read.

It's worth more than $25k definitely. Unless you need the cash, list for sale for a while and see what offers you get. I'd expect nearer the $50k personally.

Thank you all so much for the advice! Though I have a few decent domains, I have only acquired them for my own purposes--not speculation--so I have never really tried to sell one before. So thanks again, and any additional comments are more than welcome!

You could also try getting it listed on www.greatdomains.com - They are fussy what they list but I am sure they will accept yours no problem.

Listing there and sedo will get you the best exposure to the wealthier buyers IMO

what a name! Maybe slightly cheap at $25,000 but i am sure you can sell for more. I agree with Gazzip about listing it on Sedo.

Good luck :)

Perhaps search through a few trademark/business websites and see if there is anyone that would be interested. Im not sure how common "Bing" is for a surname. Just remember "Chandellor Bing" from "Friends" tv show.

Bing.com
I'd say 25k is a good deal for the buyer, 50k would be equitable deal, 75k would be good deal for the seller. I wouldn't accept 25k personally.
