This ticks me off!

I just went to Inktomi to look for a list of resellers of its Search Submit (search engine submission in 48 hours) service which they used to have and my worst fears have come true. They have done away with it and have started a paid inclusion program for regular search results. Now when you use Yahoo, You'll see ads at the top, and you'll be clicking on ad links below hidden in with the other results. Pay per click for regular search results! This is terrible for small webmasters who are used to taking advantage of search engine optimization to get their pages noticed. I guess search engines have become yellow pages and all free intersting stuff is going to be flushed down the toilet. When you crawl down the pipe looking for them, you might find them pages deep into your search results.

Sites that use this: Yahoo.com, Altavista.com, Alltheweb.com

Yay for Google!!!

Very disappointedly yours,
Bill In China

Exactly: yay for google. The thing is, if Google goes this way (which they won't if they have common sense) then someone will sprout up with a search engine that doesn't do this and will get recognition and become popular. People don't want a yellow pages for a search engine because they don't want to pay for information, so they will go to what works best - the engine offering free information (ie: no paid ads snuck in)

Hi,

I bought postions for 8 urls at Postiontech 12 days ago, and now none of my URLS are indexed anywere.

Great thing yahoo is doing! Nice and smooth.

I do not much like google, it is way overrated IMHO.

If some one could come out with a SE that did not favor corporate america.... it should would be nice.

How these companys can treat people with such total distain, because bussiness is being conducted over the internet...is beyond me.

Talk about feeling like crap...if PT was a brink and morter business...do they think I would walk into their store and just give them money for nothing?

Yahoo, google are just turning the internet into "corporate America"....I find this very fustrating.

Wait until good old Bill Gates jumps in with both feet...... Then these 3 companies will control 99.9% of the internet.

For anyone that cares about whats going on with Yahoo, you can go to:

The Vice Pres of Yahoo search... post there almost every day.

Dan

PS. I really hope: Yahoo,Google, msn spend the next 1000 years in court because of anti-trust and monoply problems etc....

Yahoo is getting off to a very bad start with the way they're including payed ads in their search results.

Altavista *used* to be the big daddy of 'em all till that went pay-for crazy.

Some lessons are never learned!

Things like this make it even more likely that Google will reign supreme!

That's true.. for now. But don't count on it too much. Remember, Google's a business too, and once they have an IPO (and they will) and cease to be a private company, fiscal pressures will set in. You can bet that one of the easiest and most obvious areas they'll be able to "find" some $$$ lying around will be those that all others are already doing anyway.

It'll be a cycle, with one SE getting popular then charging for crazy, then another takes its place, which later eventually starts charging, and so on. So everyone will have to keep up with this constant change. Major booty for SEO companies, but kinda hanging for the little guys (that's webmasters and web owners to ya).

I don't normally click on ads unless I think I might want the product, to save advertisers their money. However, I'm not going to let myself feel bad about clicking on hundreds of normal search results like I already do frequently.
