Hi friends,

I have found jv.net seems to be free - beneath the WHOIS (all I can see). But as I tried to buy the domain all resellers stated it is not available.

Surely I made some mistake thats a result of my small experience. Will be glad for any explaination.

Btw. if the domain is really free to buy, suppose it my false assessmant, do not hesitate to register - I'am currently not after it. But would be glad to know the registrar ;)

Greetings, Pozdrowienia 2 all folks

thanks for the explaination. But where do you know this from? My English is not the best surely but is it written somewhere in the WHOIS statement?

It's because all 2 character .net domains are reserved by the registry since I think 2002.

Really? Very astonishing. If nobody uses that domain why not to set it free to people? Also it seems a private company - Verizon - manages .net.

Does this problem also affect .com ?

it is not Verizon (the telephone company) , it is VeriSign (the registry for .com/.net/.tv/.name/.cc)

(short Verisign history)

2-letter .com and .net were not initially reserved (like 1-letter were) ... but after 2001 , they could not be registered and if they dropped they were reserved

the ones that are currently active CAN be renewed

the one you are talking about probably dropped after 2001

in August 2010 , VeriSign asked ICANN to release 1 and 2 letter .nets but later withdrew its request

also check out about 1-letter domains , like x.com (PayPal's) , q.com (which currently justs forwards) and z.com (which does not resolve lol)

there was talk to release the rest of the 1-letter .coms in 2005 and in 2010

thanks - did not know that its impossible to registrate 2 letter .net or .com In Europe now, as far i know, its even possible to registrate 1-letter domains in some countries (Gremany, Poland, Romania, Denmark etc.) Currently we are trying to acheave that fore more european TLDs.

So 2-letter domains is completly natural. Only that most good are sold out ;) But if somebody as an end-consumer (not reseller) is looking for a short 2-character domain at small price and European stable infrastructure there are some nice tips.

each ccTLD (country code top level domain) has its own rules about which domains are allowed

there are a few that allow 2-character (or even 1-character) and many that allow only 3+

for example , try playing around with this a little (type 2 letters in the box and select all extensions)

however , the prices between 2-letter .com and 2-letter ccTLDs are veeery different ... for example , FB.com was sold to Facebook for $8.5 million 2 years ago
