Hi

Does anyone know how to setup this restriction that when someone wants to send mails off my server using the PHP mail() function, it would authenticate the owner of the email address?

Actually one of my cutomer is sending spams from my server and the mail logs does not tell me actually who is the culprit.

Plz help?

Thanx

Are you running suPHP? If you aren't, I would be! This would make

Otherwise, disable the user nobody from sending mail. If you're running cPanel, then this is pretty easy: Login to WHM, then navigate to Tweak Settings and tick "Prevent the user nobody from sending mail."

Check the exim mail queue log and find the spammer easily. You can use the exim feature to include the domain name and script/directory which is being used while sending the message using php mail function. Otherwise, as suggested by CrazyTech above, using the PHP Suexec will be the best option to caught the spammer. But with that, your customers need to set CHMOD permissions like they do with the CGI/Perl.

I have checked the mail queue/logs and it really does not help me to catch the spammer.

They send the mail from some weird Ids, like [email protected]

Question:

How do i Set SMTP authentication in my server so that my customers when using a form-mailer has use a valid email address in order to pass the SMTP authentication?

My MTA (mail Transfer Agent) is Exim and POP/IMAP is handled by Courier-IMAP.

Thanx
