Hey guys!
Just got on the computer after being glued to the TV watching arguably, the best final soccer(football) game in history. I watched the UEFA Cup final between AC Milan and Liverpool for 3 hours.
Ah man, I tell you, it was a beauty ... atleast after the intermission, anyways.
AC Milan were the favourites to win their 7th championship, and were well on their way, scoring in the 1st minute to go up 1-0 on Liverpool. They scored twice again to go up 3-0 at the end of the 1st half.
It looked as though it was going to be a blowout score, I said "Why don't they forfeit?"; thats how bad Liverpool's play was, IMHO.
Second half, Liverpool picked up the pace, at the 54th minute, Steven Gerrard headed in the ball. One minute later, a substitute that had come on nailed a hell of a shot into the net. It's 3-2. Liverpool don't give up, at the 60th minute, a penalty kick was given to Liverpool as a result of a wreckless challenge by a Milan player. The shot by Alonso was stopped, but he was there for the rebound and put it home for a 3-3 tie.
Into the first-15-minute extra time period, no goals, few chances too. Second half of extra time, Milan picking up a bit, had quite a few chances, none better in the final minute, point-blank, Dudek, the Liverpool goalkeeper, denies a chance, and a beautiful deflection follows on the same play, about 2 seconds apart, and we're into penalty shootouts!
Dudek was nearly dancing in his goal, trying to distract the Milan players; seemed to work; the first shot went wide and Liverpool scored on their chance. Dudek with the 'help' of the dance, saved the Milan kick. Liverpool score again. Milan scores on their next 2 chances, and Liverpool is denied one, and scores the other. Each team has 5 chances, and Liverpool scored on 3 and Milan on 3. It came down to the European Footballer of The Year to try and keep Milan alive. Andrei Shevchenko kicked, and Dudek made an AWESOME save and Liverpool was the champion.
Dudek had a bit of a tough game in the first half, and some instances in the second half too. But in extra time, and in shootouts, this guy was AMAZING!
I thought my favourite for the game was going to lose, just like how all my favourites lose, and it certainly looked that way. Not to worry though, it came down to the final kick, and it was well worth 3-hours of my precious time
.
AWESOME game. Liverpool scored 3 goals in 6 minutes to tie the game back up; and it was also one of the highest scoring games in UEFA Cup Final history. And they also win their 5th championship.
Great game; if you missed it, you missed something truly awesome, IMHO! :gl:
Well, that's the summary.
See you around :]!
