Yesterday we received the county tax appraiser’s notification on the value of our house. I know that this is how they determine my annual property taxes but I'm in Alabama. I spend more at the local gas station in a month than I do on annual property taxes. Here is the dilemna. The value they listed is 8k less than I paid a year ago and since then I have spent 12k in the last year with fencing, sod, I wired the house to include patch panel, wood storage shed, etc.
My subdivision is new so I guess they don't have much to base it on. The house wasn't even finished when we bought it. I guess what I am asking is should I contest the apprasial? They said I had five days to provide documents showing true value. I know I will be selling this house in a few years so I don't want some buyer later down the road to throw this in my face.

It's common that residential proprty will be underassessed. All it means for you is slightly lower property taxes. When you go to sell the house, a three year old tax assessment appraisal will be irrelevant anyway.

Thanks -RJ- I was telling the Mrs that we were digging up her trees and shrugs and taking them back.
