An offer via Wholesale, for instance here on the Forum Hippo? If this is the case, I'd lean toward Paypal - while also checking their Trader Rating, prior trades, etc. beforehand (naturally). Certainly, you may PM me with any questions as well.
If it's from outside this scope, End user whathaveyou ... there should be a firm agreement in writing (E-mail's), and how exactly to proceed with the closing. Paypal may still be used, but only if you both feel comfortable with one another, IMHO. Otherwise, best to utilize the third-party services of: www.escrow.com

Only downside to the latter, depending on the size of the transaction ... are their fees (which could erode in to your profits from the sale, to varying degrees).

Do you wish to post your offering E-mail here, in order to work on your response?
Good Luck with your sale.

remember to check the persons history. Search around on google for their email address, so if they have been involved with scams or anything that doesn't seem legit. Good luck with the sale.

ask the buyer to pay the escrow fees. I had 2 transactions on escrow with the buyer paying the fees. THe only probs with escrow is they wont provide you with any support in respect of the transfer of domains. But they are the most trustable 3 party :)

well either way you go, congrats :)

Be sure though you get feedback/advice from people like Armstrong and RJ before you make your next move. Those two are true pro's and wont lead yu wrong (unless it is them bidding lol)

jk :)

Best of luck :)

Redhippo,

I automatically assume that people will pay me by Paypal and I do not seem to have had problems up to now to get people to pay me up to $1000+ that way on the basis that I will move the name into their account immediately I receive funds. Escrow has worked well for me in the past but the killer for me is the bank transfer fee to get the funds into the UK (another $40 on top of the transaction fees). The whole process also takes longer and I have found that most people want a quick but smooth transaction. The more professional you present yourself, the more likely the other person will put their trust inyou.

The thing to remember is that they may well be nervous about sending you the money but if you explain in simple terms exactly how the transaction will work, what each stage involves, and give exceptional service to answer any questions they have, reply very quickly to their emails and transfer the name very promptly once funds are received, you should not have problems. After all they want the name just as much if not more than you want the money!

If they do not have a Paypal account I can give them a referral link to click on so that they can set up an account for themselves.

This is a typical message I send a purchaser (this one with specific info deleted was sent a couple of weeks ago and worked fine:

Many thanks for your offer of US$XXX (X hundred US dollars) for the
domain name xxxxxxxxxx.com which I accept.

Please Paypal (www.paypal.com, part of the Ebay Group) the US$XXX.00 to
(paypal email address).

The name is registered with Enom (www.enom.com, one of the largest US
registrars) - if you have an Enom account please let me have the account
name so that I can push the name from my account to yours. If you do not
have an account, no problem - I can set one up for you free of charge.
Please provide preferred account name, name of registrant, address, zip
code, telephone number, fax number if applicable, email address.

On receipt of funds and info requested above I will push the name across
between the Enom accounts (my Enom account name is xxxxxxx).

Hope this is of some help to you - good luck with your sale!

Best regards

DavidH

Way to go hippo! I got $1k offer on one of my domains about a week ago myself. I turned it down just due to the fact that I haven't tried to market it via the Google route yet. I suggest you use escrow and have the buyer pay all fees. I would not use Paypal for anything over the $500 range. There are some loopholes here and there and it can hurt you in the end. Good Luck

Check, Electronic Check or Bank Wire. Whatever one suites you best.

I recommend this method.. if the selling price is a good amt.
I've used www.escrow.com and the buyer initiated the payment through escrow, and paid the escrow fee's.
And I rec'd my "check" in the mail about 4-5 days later. It was real quick.
Fast, secure..

Congrat's on your sale!

Good Luck ~ If using Paypal - Check these things ....

1) If they use a Credit Card - Possible ChargeBack Problems
2) Triple Check the payment status - If using Echecks it could Delay the money being in your Account for 4-5 days (Make Sure the money is definitely in your Control before transfer).
3) Always a Big +++Plus if they are Verified on Paypal one way or another .....

Good Luck ~ :)
