Hey guys,
This has nothing to do with web development, so I'm posting it in here.
Anyway, there's this thing called Mturk - it's by Amazon, and you can make some nice money on it in your spare time using your computer.
Basically: Amazon wants you to do tasks that computers can't generally do, you these taks for different companies that go through Amazon for this. These tasks are called 'HITs' (Human Intelligence Tasks). Right now only one kind of HIT is available since MTurk is in a beta stage. Each HIT you do pays out 3 cents (USD).
So you don't think 3 cents is a lot? Read on. Because it adds up.
All you have to do is find the picture out of 6 of them that best represents the business (something a computer can't do, see?) and click 'submit'. You're given information about the business like the name/address/etc. which you can use to help select the best picture.
Depending on your modem, it could take only a couple of seconds, or quite a few seconds to load all of the pictures for each HIT.
Anyway, before you can get paid for each HIT, Amazon has to accept or deny one. If the HIT gets accepted and is correct, you get the 3 cents - and visa versa.
You can have the money you earn transfered over to a bank account, or you can use it as part of an Amazon gift certificate balance.
You can complete HUNDREDS of HITs in an hour, and as long as a majority of them turn out to be accurate (e.g. you selected the best-useable picture of the storefront out of the 6 photos) you'll have a nice buildup of cash.
One of my friends actually got 1,000 HITs done on MTurk in only an hour, with the help of some script he used with Opera that somehow made the images load faster so he could select them quicker or something. Tabbed browsing also helped.
Yes, it's completely legit. I know people who have been doing this for only a few days and have anywhere from $60-$100 USD in their MTurk account.
Just thought I'd pass the word on, if you decide to do MTurk - keep us updated on how well you're getting paid. Remember to read over the FAQs on MTurk as well since I only did a quick sum-up of the whole thing.
Please add rep if you found this helpful,
Let us know how much you make!
