I did a search before starting this thread and only found 2 old ones that really didn't go anywhere.
I think Wiki - AboutUs Wiki Page deserves some new consideration because they are now getting about 9 million visitors a month (They provided the number, on the site it says 7 million).
Here my other reasons for recommending them:
- You can create a page for every domain you own. You can use these pages to talk about your site, or market your domain for sale. There are editors and spammers get banned, but they are pretty open to users creating their own content about their site/domains. If you use the pages this way, at the very least it gives people another way to find your site, or help you sell the domain you are looking to make a killing on.
- If you have other domains that are related, you can add them to the listing.
- If you have a blog, you can post a link to the RSS feed.
- You can post links to images and imbed YouTube videos.
As you can see, there are a number of free marketing possibilities they have been providing for many years, but few people are using them proactivly. If anyone visiting the site does a search for a domain and the domain can be spidered, it creates a page for that domain. These aren't bad, but a little editing can make them so much better.
You CAN'T just create a lot of off-site links to your sites and domains, and they don't want any if you don't have content. But if you do have content, then reasonable links are encouraged.
Think of this as a wikipedia for business, but without the Nazi editors, and constant spaming for desired topics. You get to maintain your own domain page the way you want it to be. AboutUs.org
