When i was reading other thread about SEDO (one which says they finally removed commerce.com and single.co.uk from "sold" list: http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=107889) i was so curious that i went to sedo.com to see that.

But there in the same list was another surprise for me: "sei.com" is declared sold at SEDO for ONLY 4,000$ ??? I find that a little bit TOO LOW! And the bigger surprise to me was when i discovered that this domain was registered back in 1989: Creation Date: 20-jan-1989!

Now, who would sell 16 year old domain for only $4k? And with "good letters".
On Archive.org i found out that domain belonged to Silicon Engineering Inc, and recently to Creative (you know, that soundblaster manufacturer)...

Do you think something smells here? :(

I think maybe he sold it to his brother-in-law, you have to pay capital gain if it is sold too high.

there are also many other possibilities:
*the payment is paid over a period of time
* the contract include other trade such as link exchange
* the contract include sharing future profit even though the ownership
changed.
* the original owner has a law suit pending, or IRS is going after him, he wanted to make sure that he is not worth that much.

sei mean also six in italian.
I still doubt a lot about SEDO and big scoops in the DN market.
This thread would eventually confirm my idea.

did domains exsist in 1989?

even before that.
for an example, try whois for ibm.com, dimension.com, and quite a few others.

Every once in a while someone sells something they have no idea what the value is. Kind of like the classic painting or antique picked up at a garage sale for a few dollars. I've gotten a few domains that way, and actually probably sold a couple that way as well. Timing means a lot in situations like this. You can usually get more money if you wait, but can you always wait?

They shoulda worked a deal to get it listed by snapnames, coulda sold it there for ninety million bucks.
