I don't get it. I know there's people who die, forget to check emails or just don't know about domain value. Is that all there is to it?

When domains drop and are caught by these sites for auction, are those domains simply registered by the websites? Is that what they do? Or are they ''buying them'' from someone? If they are just registering them as soon as they are available, don't the domains lose ''age''?
