I lost $60 on a hosting account I never got....

And they just washed off their hands...

My experiences with both paypal and 2checkout have been great.

I once bought a domain from someone...and he never followed through with the order.. so I filed a little complaint and it was resolved asap. I also got my money back.

If you have a dissatisfied customer , you must resolve it or they will do it for you. Just like any other credit card company.
If I buy something from someone and they screw me on the offer(which has never happened by anyway) I will file a quick complaint to paypal. If they dont resolve it - I know I can go straight to my credit card company, visa, and I can get my money back. Essentially screwing everyone (the seller and paypal).
I generally fund my paypal with my credit card that way I always have insurance.

Yup, I had a package "not get there".. 12 out of 13 people got their packages.. they file a complaint and screwed my paypal until yesterday.. 3 weeks!! assholes I hate them now!

i have had 1300 dollars frozen by paypal.
they asked for copies of my passport/dl/bankstaments/

it took over 6 months to get it out.

i hate them

Thats why I got a bank account signed up to them, so I can transfer it straight out!

I've never had a problem. The only problem i did have, was due to my bank "fkin" up.

No bad problems yet but I dont go high rolling either. I usually transfer out before i get a lot stocked up in there.

No bad problems here. Plus since I'm 15 I don't bring in much cash, LOL. Most I have had in my paypal account is like $4.55

I just shut down my Paypal account, and advised my bank to reject all withdrawals/deposits connected with both Paypal and Ebay. It's a very big, and very sad move since I transact a lot on Ebay, but a man's got to do what a man's got to do.

I am looking at getting my own stable merchant account, if anybody knows a good source for Canadians, let me know!

I have been using paypal since it came out . I have never had problems at all. I have had as little as 0 in there and as much a $1000 with no issues .

I keep two bank accounts. One for only Paypal transactions. The other my normal checking account. I can transfer money in/out of my accounts online and it's instantaneous.

This works good, because if Paypal ever tries to screw me over, I'm covered...for the most part. I don't keep a balance in Paypal. And I don't keep much of a balance in my bank account I have tied to paypal. I will withdraw it to my PP only checking account, then transfer that to my main checking account. When I need PP money, I transfer out of my main to my PP checking account.

I've read the horror stories on paypal and while I've never had anything bad happen to me, I won't wait around for it to either.

The problem with Paypal is that they are not business friendly. Sure, its easy enough for buyers to go running to their bank to dispute their charges. But Paypal merchants are at the mercy of Paypal policy. One misstep, and you stop processing. Full stop!

Its one thing if your online store is just a hobby to sell a few dollars worth here and there, in which case paypal would be okay; its a totally different matter if your online business is what puts food on the table. Its unnerving to be so dependent on a company that's this uncaring of their merchants' welfare.

I agree, I just use paypal for my online purposes. I just put in $45 in september when I started using it and when it got to $200 i took out. So i just have a minimal here and there. If I lose all thats in paypal its not much of a problem as that I would still have gained from the use of it. My bank also checks with me for any transactions to that account no matter what so I am safe here.

luckily PayPal hasn't done anything wrong to me, hopefully they won't I was just using PayPal for ebay but it made me upgrade my account when I got a payment through credit card.

No north american transaction company will cover your merchant transactions unless you can provide proof of sale (moneris is the canadian CC firm). The only way to show proof of sale is with both:
1) A credit card imprint
2) A signature matching the name of the card holder.

Telephone/internet transactions will never allow this so you'll never be covered as a merchant. It is your responsibility to verify as best you can whether the buyer is trustworthy. If you cannot, a chargeback is issued and you'll need to treat it as a business expense. At the current time there is no way around this & it's all a probability game when it comes to allowing CC transactions online.

As an aside, this is why paypal has to be such assheads about fraud. They can't do anything about it anymore than you can so they just pass the chargebacks onto you. If you want to blame anyone, blame the CC companies themselves.

CIBC/American Express entourage card can decrease fraud but offers not merchant chargeback protection.

The safest avenues for you as a merchant are; (1) Check/money order, (2) Payingfast.com, (3) Western Union, or (4) Wire transfer. All are much more inconvenient and/or expensive.

Ive been using paypal for about 1 year, mainly small transactions, 1-100$, and never had a problem. about a month ago I had a few large transactions (over 500$), well I ended up with about 1000$ in my acct and next thing you know my acct is froze. They want a fax from my bank, a fax from me, proof of phone number, social security number, ect... It took about a week to clear up. Figures as soon as there some real money in there they mess up.

Next - about 1 week ago they screwed me and Im still trying to get it fixed. I had 2 payments received. 1 for 70$ and 1 for 40$. This brought my balance to about 700$, I withdrew 600$ to my bank acct and then my balance said 30$.!!!! what the hell. how did they figure that one out. Im out like 70$ bucks. I emailed them and yesterday I received an email stating for me to call them. I called today and they said that I was wrong!! now I checked my paypal acct and the recent transactions have changed
and now there is no record for the 70$ payment. I still have the email they sent when i got the payment so im sure i will get paid, its just ridiculous how long they take to fix something.

only one...

i did a chargeback as never got the domain i purchased from a member here ( i think shes banned now)
cost me $100 for the domain
paypal sent a few cents to my creditcard ( around 16)



but i love paypal
