Hi, and thanks for all your contributions.
You make a good point about opening a .si website, seeing Slovenian text and, for a second, thinking your browser had been hacked. It's an interesting point.
But there are a few other things worth considering.
Anguilla has a population of around 14,000, with English as its official language. Slovenia has a population of around 2.1 million, and some estimates suggest that around 65% of Slovenians have some understanding of English. That's well over a million people.
People often point out that Anguilla's small population means there is very little local demand for .ai domain names compared with their potential worldwide use. But you could make a similar argument for Slovenia. Its population is only around 5% of California's, so local demand for .si domains is also relatively small compared with the potential global market.
There are a few other interesting similarities. Both .ai and .si have been around for more than 30 years, and both countries have GDP per capita figures well above the global average.
None of this means .si will follow the same path as .ai. There are plenty of differences between the two.
But when you look at the bigger picture, particularly the growing interest in artificial intelligence and superintelligence, I think there are some interesting similarities worth considering.
Sometimes it's worth looking at things from a slightly different angle.
