I wouldn't even take a free .com there.

Thanks for the offer though.

This is like saying get a free social disease - 1&1 are not clean, you don't want a domain there even if they pay you to take it. Just try googling 1&1 sucks, or 1&1 stole my domain name... you get the idea.

support pp?

No, they could not process the Paypal payments and kept re-sending instructions that did not work, then they sent their classic threatening letters from collection agencies. It is just not worth the trouble using 1&1 even if they pay you to.

Avoid 1 & 1 even if they give you 10 .com in a row for free

But thanks for sharing

Its not free, you have to pay $0.18 ICANN fees at the end.

I wouldn't shop there even if they paid me.

I let a domain name expire there and then they sent me a collection notice SMH. Why would they ask me money when I'm not renewing the domain?

Avoid like the plague!

1&1 are scammers! I don't know for 1and1.com but 1and1.fr tried to steale my money, last year they offered .com for 1euro (instead of 14 euros), I bought some ".com" domains and before 3 months of the expiration date, I transferred them to GoDaddy and Dynadot, but I was surprised that 1and1 asked me to pay the renewal fees for those domains !!!! fortunately my credit card has expired and they couldn’t use it to get paid for domains that they don’t manage anymore !!
So this is their process:
1) they offer domains for free or $1
2) they save automatically your payment information
3) They hide or disable the option to deactivate "Automatic Renewal" for the domain
4) They send you the invoice two months before the expiration date and try to use your payment infos to get paid .
So be carefull, stay away from 1&1 !

Deactivate AutoRenewal does not work - there is another hidden process with a special login page which is confusingly called Cancel Contract.

http://help.1and1.co.uk/account-and...dditional-item-from-your-package-a623833.html

The selected domain(s)/feature(s) will be cancelled and a confirmation message will be sent to the e-mail address you entered in the Control Panel.

They claim if you have not done that at least 7 days before the renewal date you must pay - so they either take payment or send collection agencies after you.

Make absolutely certain you get an email from them confirming that each domain will not renew. You will need that if you have to argue with them.

It's a bait and switch operation. The support is awful. Even if it wasn't, the music you have to endure while waiting for them to finally answer your call is enough to stay away. Trust me, it's horrible...

Getting the name and site up then held hostage for renewal and more hosting. Bleagh setup for disaster.

I truly believe there should be a class action suit against 1and1.

Not only do they steal domains and money...
They waste a huge amount of people's time trying to solve issues that should never have been issues.

@Chris Wright
I agree, a class action will be the best solution to stop 1and1 scams !
