Ok , i don`t know where to post this question so i will post it here . I need to add to httpd.conf an server alias so a script will work, but GoDaddy shared hosting doesn`t allow changing http.conf. Is there any possibility to add a serve ralias from .htaccess ? I really need to solve this problem, if i can`t add the serveralias i cannot use the script i paid for :(

Thanks,
Iulian

in the godaddy control panel, you should be able to add a domain and point it to the same folder as an existing domain?

i'd expect this would add another vhost, which should have a similar effect to a server alias?

That doesn`t work, i need to change somehow httpd.conf with a new server alias , i want to install a multiforum hosting script and this requiers an httpd.conf change , i understood that this can be done thru .htaccess too , but i don`t know how .

Thanks -NC-

ah i understand now - it needs a wildcard alias setup so that people can make new forums without you having to manually create a new subdomain each time.

i guess you've already emailed godaddy support?

i added the wildcard in the DNS manager . Yes i contacted GoDaddy and they told me that only on vps and private servers i can change the httpd.conf file , and they told me that this can be done thru .htaccess. I read something related on apache.org but i cannot find the exact code for it .

Thanks,
Iulian

found this for .htaccess wildcard subdomains on GD:

#handle example.org wildcard subdomains
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?([a-z0-9-]+).domain2.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !^/domain2com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /domain2com/$1 [L]

good luck!

Thanks a lot -NC- but i had done something else. I got sick of GoDaddy hosting, and bought an hosting account from other hoster, i hope there i can install this script . The worst thing that i did today is that i payed GoDaddy for another 3 months of hosting . Anyway thanks again man for your great support . I rep-ed you .

Have a great day,
Iulian

no problem, happy to try and help - i often learn new things myself when helping others!

if i had known that moving hosts was an option, i'd have suggested that you get in contact with apthost.com - they've made httpd.conf changes for me before ( but that wasn't your particular change )
