Did you know many companies, incl large ones like IBM patented the name "freelance" as back as 1985. There are many companies holding patents over common words. Freelancer for example is a conniving austrialian scam website, suing many people over freelancer trademark. Having this domain doesnt stop TM cases. But, you should be prepared. Did you know, 24x7freelancer.com was dragged to court over the word 'freelancer'. Despite having a common dictionary word could always argue over its common, but you would need to protect and defend your assets with a good IP.. IMO, you can trademark the name, or "use" the name/ develop the site, rather placing the undeveloped name for sale, at the risk of losing the name over that clause.
