We previously announced a search for a great brand name for an online service for sourcing domain certificates. The thesis is that there will eventually be innovative alternatives to the likes of LetsEncrypt that empower more people to secure their sites with robust technology. That search was described here:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/ssl-root-certificate-authority-ca-brand-name.1158491/

In the meantime, we have had some great domain candidate submissions. In order to select a winning name, we welcome your input on name selection through poll and discussion as we make plans to co-create another tool that helps make the pie bigger.

As for the list of brand prospects, we used every slot allowed in the poll software. There were many good ones left out unfortunately, but it is still a long list from some very thoughtful submitters who I look forward to highlighting among the top contenders to the extent they choose to be identified!

Hi @karmaco - DNEncrypt has been at auction for nearly a week with several bids, but my BIN was "TBD". After I set a BIN (earlier today), Rob contacted me.
I am pretty sure you are not allowed to cancel auctions that have bids.
There is no buy it now PRICE on that thread sir.

The auction was never canceled. The terms of auction never had a BIN price before today, and was TBD. Nobody took it at the BIN....except Rob now. Even the mods can check my auction history.

At 11:58 you wrote BIN will be set by the end of the day. There is no BIN price listed but the thread was closed saying sold at BIN. Maybe don’t auction your names in the middle of a contest.

Yep...you should have put the bin in the thread so Rob could have made it official by making the purchase there...like he did on another recent domain acquisition that was on auction.

I don't think may of us here really care (other than those bidding on the auction) but next time may I suggest taking the few extra steps to ensure there aren't any hard feelings.

we might not care per say but the auction rules were broken. A buy it now price is supposed to be listed in the initial post AND in the thread and the buyer is required to claim it in the thread for it to be valid.

I really thought DNcert.com or FullEncrypt.com would be the top ones! Webseal.com, I knew was TMd.

At the beginning of this thread, I was already told by two contestants I had a convoluted situation. I agree its awkward, but I stuck by the rules.

I do think the best name to go along with the existing product line was chosen. Just next time follow auction rules. I have seen people get dinged for less obvious auction infringements.

You did not. You did not list the buy it now price in the 2 required areas and Rob did not claim the BIN in the thread before you closed it.

Congrats @Tin Nguyen and
Good luck @Rob Monster for the project..

It certainly not a good example of the recent contests... I feel Rob is giving a chance to domainers by bringing the search here...and I think it can only multifold the reputation of Epik if all rules are followed and executed. Twisted practices should not be encouraged...
That being said it is my opinion...and I am just providing feedback to Epik.

My name is not listed in chosen candidates....and I was late to submit.

Sorry...I didn't voted.

Thanks,
Ravi

When the auction was setup about a week ago, the BIN was set to TBD (to be determined) just like my other 3 auctions. Earlier today, I set a BIN on all of my auctions. The terms of each auction is "BIN must be called." Rob messaged me, in effect "calling" it. I then closed the auction to any more bids and updated it to reflect SOLD. I'm unsure where the favoritism comes in. (because I'm in Information Security?) But thank you @NameJi , I truly appreciate your congrats! :)

Now let's all focus on how we can make Epik's DNProtect and DNEncrypt the best offerings from any Registrar, lead the pack and pave the way for a more secure web.

Congrats @Tin Nguyen and @Rob Monster

@Tin Nguyen This is the clear case of favoritism and broken the auction rules. Not sure who won the auction and how?
https://www.namepros.com/threads/dn...epik-branding-contest-finalist.1158877/page-2

Actually, Tin brought value-added. He is an expert on the topic and had relevant input not only on the brand but on the business model. He was forthcoming with that input and will consult on the project both with engineering and as an industry advocate to publishers of browser software.

Here is one example:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/na...certificate-brand.1159033/page-5#post-7450798

That was value-added and worth recognition. It tipped the break-even in his favor.

@Tin Nguyen As per the rules, First the BIN should be publically announced in the auction thread. Second -- BIN should be publically claimed in the thread. Third -- The seller should announce the winner publically in the thread.

When you do not announce a BIN on the auction thread, you are not giving a fair chance for others to claim it. This is called favoritism.

I understand now @NameJi , thanks for clarifying. I will be reaching out to each individual bidder via PM.

Yes, NameJi is right the BIN needs to be claimed by the winner per namepros rules, otherwise all those bidders were just wasting their time if you can close the auction, and end the process, nobody would participate in any auction. You really shouldn't have posted an auction if your names were in the running in this contest.

Now you make Rob look like a bad guy, and basically saying money can break the rules, and buy an auction bypassing any rules.

I understand you sitting at $32, and maybe having a bigger offer in play, but you should have placed the bin price at whatever you sold it at, and posted it in the thread, and first post, and then whoever claims it first takes it.

Regardless, hopefully you do better next time. Congrats on your sales.

Tin did get a lecture from me about gaming the poll. While I appreciate the inventiveness, it was actually a dodgy move. Since he is engaged to be married to an Epik staff member, I will give him an extra hard time about it. Someone has to straighten him out before he starts raising babies and what not. :)

Live and learn. This was an important lesson taught mostly among friends. I look forward to having some more coaching time with Tin in the coming months as we breathe life into this project. His background is super relevant. His evangelical/advocacy and guerrilla marketing skills are also relevant for this one.

It’s just an example of getting a little too excited and just not posting the BIN properly within the auction’s first post and most recent post. As well Rob Monster didn’t post his BIN bid in the auction thread instead privately messaged the auction seller.

If you wanted to be hard nosed you’d say they circumvented the rules, even, conspired to circumvent the rules, but I think that would be going too far and anyway the end result would have been the same no one else at NP would have bought the domain at that price but - it could’ve been done in a way that wouldn’t violate the rules here. Both seller and buyer have been members of NP for a long time they must have known that this isn’t the right way to do it. Just a few extra steps a click here and there and no one could have objected.

You are right, Technically he can reopen the thread and re-write history if the seller chooses to do that, the buyer simply has to claim SOLD once the buyer posts the BIN price, and bumps the thread.
