Say you purchased a domain a few years back that didn't mean much then other than it's short and memorable. Come to find out now there is a new product being made by a major brand expected to be released in a little over a year.

If the domain name is generic and in no way infringes (no trademarks or possible UDRP's), what would you do next? Reach out to the brand directly? Their competition? Broker? Create a website that sells/promotes the new product along with similar products from other brands? I could really use some advice from those who have had success or maybe been in a similar situation.

Please share.

Thanks!

Use a lander, a few descriptions like -easy to use, -memorable, -generic, -top etc., with a price and contact info. Don't place any ads or services relating to that product.

I would park it with Sedo like I normally do but their price cap of $49k may undervalue the domain. I could list it as "Make Offer". Any suggestions where else to park?

Should I reach out and suggest the domain to the brand(s), meaning the company or its competitors?

Same as above.

Never ever try to contact trademark holder to sell your name which is similar to their trademark. It’s a clear bad faith right their. You will lose your name if you do that and if Trademark owner file UDRP.

They can contact you and you can negotiate but never contact trademark owner.

Thanks

Thanks TERADOMAIN. The domain is generic and does not currently infringe on any business. It does not conflict with a brand and there are no trademarks. I've learned from a prior mistake that it's best to keep away from trademarks and it only ended up costing me the reg fee thankfully.

Definitely make a lander so when somebody types the name into a browser they end up on a web page saying the domain name is for sale, and have an easy-to-fill-out form for someone to contact you. Good luck!

*Come to find out now there is a new product being made by a major brand expected to be released in a little over a year that uniquely fits the unnamed product.
