This new automatic bump limiter addition to the domain auctions thread is preventing auctions from being seen..
Even if you accidentally bump your thread a few minutes before the 24 hour period is over your thread won't bump and it will be prevented from being bumped for another 24 hours...making it so your thread doesn't get seen as much as it should....this kills many of the auction threads.

I see it not killing any threads.
If one can not do a 24 hour bump?
Then tough...
Otherwise you get too many bumps, just to keep it bumped to the top.

I feel as if the best way to do it would be to make the bumps automatic for every thread in the domain auction section, if that's possible. So every thread gets to be at the top of the page once in a 24 hour period and it doesn't depend on the thread starter bumping it themselves. That would make it a lot easier so people don't have to continuously remember when it's been 24 hours since their last post... I personally lose track of time a lot (yes, that's my own fault).

In my auction thread here: https://www.namepros.com/threads/sold.920173/

Posted it: Saturday at 9:48 PM

Posted again: Sunday at 10:45 AM ... thread didn't bump because it wasn't 24 hours

Posted again: Monday at 8:13 AM ... thread didn't bump because it wasn't 24 hours

Posted again: Monday at 10:48 AM...to see if the thread would bump to the top but it didn't.. said the same message as above...

So my thread never actually got bumped at all during the duration of the auction...killing possible bidders from seeing it. Yes, I know I should of let 24 hours pass between posts but still it would be much easier if bumps in that section of the forum were automatic!

With the number of threads we have, that would more or less result in randomized results on each view of the forum. It also wouldn't be realistic, performance-wise.

Just because you can bump your thread every 24 hours doesn't mean you have to. If you find yourself bumping too frequently, you need to wait longer. You shouldn't be setting alarms to bump your threads exactly at the 24 hour marks: that's not how these forums were intended to be used. The idea is that we allow bumps if you feel your thread is still relevant but no longer getting attention. One day is the minimum reasonable time between such bumps, not the target time. If everyone started bumping their threads every 24 hours exactly, we'd have to disable bumping entirely because it'd be too chaotic.

While the system would be more user-friendly if accidental early bumps didn't reset the timer, in testing/profiling, we found that the database queries required to make the system work that way were too inefficient. The current functionality is less forgiving, but it also reinforces the idea that 24 hours is a minimum, not a target.

Bumping is a free form of promoting your sales threads. It's not something we should automate because there has to be something exchanged for the free promotion (e.g., your effort), otherwise it becomes less valuable and less useful to everyone.

Those who bump wisely and correctly are rewarded with additional free exposure for their sales listings.

We're working on more ways to offer promotion to sales listings that we hope to have available soon.

Stay tuned - lots more coming! ;)

@Eric Lyon
Hope promotion don't make something like WSO forum. Right now all are equal in NP if monetary based promos kicks in, so called big shot and people with big money only rule the roast. By the by most active NP members are small / part time domainers hope it will stay same. Big guys have SEDO, Flippa for their sales and small/part timer only place to do business is NP. Please do take that in consideration while doing any changes on sales thread.

So this is to resolve having to check the time and bump your own thread? If things can be made easier great, but I'd rather dev time was spent on better things and we get on with managing our own auctions ;) It's not hard work, and surely you want to be in there regularly checking bids etc anyway?

Also, manual control over bumps is preferred IMO. Bumping at certain times when the forum is busiest etc, or perhaps quietest to get more time at the top - all depending upon the domain and current auction status etc.
I would imagine people frustrated at their auction being bumped when they did not want it being bumped.

Tell that to the developers... ;)

To make it easier, just add a few hours to your total end time. eg "ends 72 hours after last bid" instead make it 80 hours and then you get a few hours grace between each 24 hours.

I just set a reminder on my phone (i'm new to owning a smartphone), problem solved.

The thread can be closed since it's not really an issue anymore.
