Free hosting is not a good route to go at all. Especially when you can get sufficient hosting for as low as $3USD per month. I use HostGator for all of my sites. Unlimited domains, unlimited emails costs me $9USD per month and I got my first month for a penny.

If you are serious about being online, then get hosting. It's not expensive.

Google thinks the same thing when it comes to SERP. If your site is being hosted at a known 'free' host, then you are sure to rank low in the SERP.

Cheers.

Free hosting is good if you're just using it for testing purposes. But do not use it in live production. Make sure that you need to have to be on a paid plan. There will be a lot of issues on a paid platform, resource limitation to name a few.

Hostgator India has not provided support for a webhosting account in December 2014 and the account was closed , though payment was made till April 2015. Instead of wasting money on paid webhosting, it will be better to use free webhosting

I use HostGator for all of my sites.

Unfortunately that is a web hosting I won't personally suggest as their support went down the drain since the day they became an EIG company.
There are many other cheap and reliable shared plans but I would totally stay away from anything owned by EIG. For a basic basic site you could even go with GD hosting

HG are not the only ones out there and its certainly not a wise choice to choose between them or free hosting. Better do a little research and find a reasonably priced host for the services and quality they offer. There are a lot out there, even in the $3-$4 price range who can be great hosting partners for any small/medium business.

I have had no problems that have required me to contact support with HostGator; ever. The only time I ever need to contact them is to have certain settings changed that only a super-admin could modify; which is very rare.

But that's me; I don't have technical issues because most technical issues emerge from end users playing with code and permissions they are 'learning' about.

I am thinking about switching from ipage to arvixe has anyone use them before? Its a little more expensive but I think it might be worth it. Hope you guys have any experience with them.

Roll out a VPS for as low as $5 a month, @ Digital Ocean.

Very Fast, and better than most of the shared hosting plans. Test, Try & Excel.

I had a few smaller sites with Arvixe before, but had so many issues with them that I moved the sites to another host before the the period I had paid for was over.

Last fall Arvixe was bought by EIG, so I would expect it to get progressively worse, as that's what usually happens to hosting companies after they get acquired by EIG.

You don't know how painfully right you are right there :)

Personally I wouldn't go with either ipage, hostgator or arvixe. A lot of people consider these to be among the worst hosting providers in the industry. Head over to Web Hosting Talk, where you can read real hosting reviews. Spending some hours there would give you a good idea of your options. A google search is pretty much useless, as you will mostly just find a bunch of affiliate sites promoting different hosts, as well as fake reviews by the companies themselves.

Based on my own testing, I think the best value budget shared hosting is Servinio. Never had downtime issues with them and sites load really fast. I also like how they don't say you have "unlimited" resources, as there is no such thing for a cheap shared hosting plan. At Servinio they say exactly how much bandwidth and disk space you have. Since I didn't have any issues with them yet, I can't comment on their customer service.

Check what @Arca told you, whichever of the 3 you choose - you end up in one and the same boat practically as all 3 are owned by the same mother company - EIG. The EIG clients flood the forums practically every day searching for a new host after they were disappointed by the service/quality/downtime/other issues. You can save yourself some hassle and do a little research. Start from WebHostingTalk, a lot of mid-size quality providers advertise there so you can find a good match for your requirements. After you find a few make sure to test their quality of customer service and their overall knowledge and behavior before you sign up. Choose a host with clear and good moneyback guarantee period and minimize your risks. ;)

The best advice I can give you is to stay away from free hosting.

Back in the day when I was really broke I used free hosting and at first they always seemed really good but what you realize the hard way is they all have a “catch” of some kind that you eventually realize later on down the road.

I don’t want to name names but one of them started out perfect and as soon as I started getting a decent amount of traffic they would throw up an ad for their hosting on my website to all of my visitors (and they did this with EVERY SINGLE page I had – it was so bad I had people emailing me saying it was annoying).

Another one also started off good but my WordPress website started to get really slow as time went on and it got to the point where it started throwing up errors cause it couldn’t load at all.

And another one had troubles with the MX records for my branded email and when I contacted the support for help they not surprisingly didn’t respond.

So do yourself a favor and pay a few bucks a month to get a decent paid hosting account – it’ll be one less thing to worry about.

As for what hosting is best I’m not 100% sure what one would work well for you. I’ve used Host Gator and they work well but my needs aren’t all that demanding. I’ve also used LevelHosting.ca and there also pretty good but as I said before, my needs aren’t all that demanding.

Frankly speaking free Web hosting is not so worth and reliable and you may end up losing your hard work. You can not expect too much from them. If they are offering you free hosting they will post then they will advertise unwanted advertisements on your website. Free means to take back a good amount from you not by charging you but publishing or posting unwanted advertisements on your website which is the most annoying thing. So I would recommend you to choose a good reliable cheap web hosting company.
