I am going to tell you about a gigantic project going on in Abu Dhabi called Reem Island. This project is so huge 3 of the largest developers in the UAE(Tamouh, Sorouh, and Reem Investments) are building it. It is even bigger than The Pearl Qatar project that appeared in this forum last June.

- Reem Island is a combined residential, commercial and business project being built on a natural island off the coast of Abu Dhabi City and will be directly connected to Abu Dhabi City by a number of bridges. The location of Reem Island is only 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

- Reem Island will accomodate and estimated 280,000 residents. Some estimates go as high as 350,000!!

- Reem Island will contain Numerous hotels, resorts, beaches, spas, shopping malls, restaurants, medical clinics, many, many businesses, a 27 hole golf course, etc., etc.

- Just one of the business projects on Reem Island is Addax Port. By itself Addax is a massive port project which will contain 5 huge towers: an office tower and 4 other residential towers. And this is just one "small" part of Reem Island.

- Of course there will be tons of luxury condos and homes and villas, etc. to accomodate the huge number of residents of Reem Island.

- Reem Island will eventually be the "center" of Abu Dhabi which is the Richest of all the Emirates. Even richer than Dubai.

- Do a google search to get lots more info on Reem Island and here are a few sites to get you started: ReemIsland.com, AddaxPort.com, ReemInvestments.com. There are many more.

- There are still many good names left. I picked up:

ReemIslandProperties.com

ReemProperties.com

...but there are still many more left. As a domainer if you miss out on Reem Island you will never forgive yourself. Good luck and I hope this post was of help to you.

It is an interesting excercise to go back to the start of this thread (2007) and see just what happened to all those names being registered.

I had a look at the whois on about 15 names near the start registered by different people, of those 13/15 had been dropped with 1 name being reregistered. I'm guessing it is pretty indictitive of how domaining in the area has gone.

Isn't it the same in any speculative niche? Interesting fact nevertheless!

Dubai is in VERY SERIOUS trouble and Dubai's woes caused the markets to fall heavily today. In fact, Dubai is in much more serious trouble than even I thought. Here is a very good article from Forbes.com that will help you understand just how bad things are for Dubai:

Here are more articles about the demise of Dubai. Could be the biggest real estate boom and bust in history...not to mention all those Dubai businesses that could also implode. Remember, the Sovereign Wealth Funds of Dubai, including Dubai World and Dubai Holding, control much more than just real estate projects...they are invested in all kinds of businesses in the UAE (and around the world).

The falling of Dubai is real and it is sinking bigtime. My poshdubai.com domain I regged may need a new title. Anyone got "sinkingdubai" for trade?

Interesting to see the Abu Bhabi and Dubai stocks today, mostly limit down (10%) so who knows how far they still have to fall over the next couple of days. The ones that didn't change look to have no bids. This is the new iceland.

....yet Dubai is going ahead full force developing new office towers in Business Bay--- which will put even more office space on the Dubai market!

I am beginning to wonder if Dubai has any concept of reality.

Some will paint a rosey picture until the doors shut. At the moment Dubai is trying to wage a rather pointless PR excercise that everything is OK but no amount of that will change the reality of bank accounts with no money in them.

Give it couple of months and all the construction will have stopped and the planes will be full of expats going home (not that this hasn't been already happening, but it is going to get far worse I think). Some of the comments by officials & investors would be laughable if it wasn't so much money at stake. "Everything is ok, the world is overreacting"....yeah right, Dubai has had its tap on the shoulder.

I still have alot of faith in the tourism side of it but I can't imagine the property market will get much better in the next 2 or 3 years...alot of damage (worldwide) has been done and it will be really hard to fix that anytime soon.

I just reg'd my first .a e domain last night but purely for development purposes.

Nice find Gaz, did you use instra? Dubai will be a tourist attraction when they get back on track, whenever that is. I know the flood of expats leaving the country is alarming but with Abu Dhabi's help they will make a slow recovery, and comeback with more balance and stability. Naturally, I typed in visitabudhabi.ae and as I suspected adta was all over that puppy.
