Are there any legalities involved with selling ads on your website? If so, what are they?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Do you mean putting ads on your own website? If so no there is nothing wrong with that. You can have google ads, bidversiter, or any other type of affilate program.

But can it be as simple as just having people pay me with paypal and be done with it... or is there more to it.

Can't speak to some odd law in any given state, but in general you can sell ad space on your blog all you want. You can do it through an adnetwork or you can put up a space that says your ad here and ask for Paypal payment. If you can find someone who wants the space, it is as simple as that.

AdBrite is really good for that. I would check them out.

As far as legal issues, you have to pay taxes on the money you bring it. Also careful with your web hosting company if you can promote adult sites.

thats all i can think of.

There's no legal issues when selling ads on your site, assuming the ads are legal content.

Yes its as simple as that. You can charge people to be like on your homepage like $3 bucks a month or something like that.

There is no legal side involved in selling ads on your own site.

There are rules though.

- Like for adsense you cannot integrate another contextual ads network with it.
- Like maybe in your country you might not be able to promote adult sites.
- Like you cannot promote casinos and all as per the paypal rules. Paypal doesn't wants to get their hands dirty with casino related transactions. Many directory owners who were doing this have had their accounts closed.
- Another side is income tax. As this will be your income.

Other then that I don't think there are any legal things attached to selling ads on a site.

There's no illegality in putting ads. However read the terms and conditions as for example.. you must not use more tham one CPC provider.
