Without gTLDs most domainers would be restricted to looking in awe at the sales of the premium domains, or scratching about with hand registering domains they hope they could make a few bucks on. Even though they are almost without an exception just money grabs, they are giving people who could...

discuss Private registration is under threat?

I disagree. Scammers, spammers and those planning illegal activities most likely use fake whois information anyway so removing whois protection won't affect or deter them but will lead to a deterioration of the underlying registry data on domains previously protected by whois guards as real name...

You miss the point completely. The bwin business was sold. The sale had nothing to do with a .party extension. Bwin used bwinparty.com etc before the .party extension came along.

I think ICANN and the Registries need to step up and take some responsibility here. I know that many of them consider being able to extort premium prices from large companies to protect their company or trademark name as being a prime source of their income in an already saturated gTLD market...
