High Keyword Rankings Used with Non dot com Names

Absolutely! There are some regional ranking aspects to look out for with ccTLDs if you are looking for international exposure but other than that it's about the keyword. My site Insurance.us is on the first page of Google for Insurance News (for me anyway) in the US.

You've gotten some good recs on other sources. That said, I've found in-house affiliate programs to be the way to go. Even better than that is helping a company in your niche develop an affiliate program. The less affiliate competition you have the more opportunities you have to kill it.
