It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Hard to refuse 4 figure offers when the 2013 extension dilution around the corner

The Dilution, if it ever gets underway, will do anything but dilute. What it will do is further confuse the public who will retreat to what they know ... dot Com and the original gTLDs. That will drive dot Com prices up and the original gTLDs should follow suit. Now doesn't that sound better?

But I have to agree that it would be hard to refuse four figure offers for almost anything that I own.

.pro is slowly becoming a recognizable name for an extension. I see your point, there may be a flight to quality but I personally think that may be short lived as generally people become more open to a broader selection of unique domain extensions.

Of course, name recognition is important to people and one of the things that .pro is suffering from. Given that, you can see how difficult it is to get in the spotlight with a new domain extension and actually establishing 150K+ registered users who develop on the extension is quite difficult in itself.

.pro is a slow mover, but the ground work is in place and the .gtld is in enough reseller storefronts to where it will be hard to brush it under the rug when all the new .whatever's come out as there is demand for .pro and it is hugely competitive against new extensions that don't cater to such a broad market of keywords.

The amount of offers and resales on a steady basis is very encouraging!

2013 will only be the release, be another 5-10 years for these extensions to make a dent and then how many will be as valuable as .pro?

It's 'established' as compared to new gtlds,
It's a common prefix and suffix
and it is only 3 letters, unlike most new gtlds.

...as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I'd drop all three, go for commercially viable keywords, that's where the big money is.

But I have to agree that it would be hard to refuse four figure offers for almost anything that I own.
I'm getting less and less inclined to sell anything for less than four figures tbh, in real business terms even $10,000 is 'cheap' if you really think about it. Heck it would cost as much to attend a major conference including air fare, hotel stay hospitality and conference fee... and that's just for one person.

Oh and had a few people question whether there really was an offer so:

Pro will not be consider special or different than the other new extensions. If anything it will be lumped in with all them. And it will be quick in my opinion (pro being looked at as being just another of "them donuts.co" type names to the public) ) An artist that may have been considering a dot pro can now switch to thinking about a dot art or a dot music. There will probably be a dot ext equivalent for every pro trade under the sun.

The good news is it will further legimize dot pro, after all it is now in a mindset of vanity names that wont disappear.

If the artist wants to become more distinct he'll be the .pro! ;)

Excluding Hostway's zip .pros, total .pros registered to February 2012 increased by 6.7% in the month to 93,558. The year on year % increase rose for an 8th consecutive month to 57.8%, this is the highest year on year % rise since October 2009, the month after the September 2009 relaunch. Average daily WHOIS searches rose to a new all time high of 42,924.

These increases have to be the result of the .pro pricing promotion. Hate to see them basically just give .pro's away..but getting greater quantities of domains out on the street may have been a big step in advancing the usage of .pro's which again was an important step towards building future growth.

I think the registry is tightening back right now and expect that when this month's report rolls around growth will be scaled back and not soo dramatic...but growing none the less!! thanks for posting that solid report!

Excellent thread on new extensions and the next step in domaining. read more commnents on domaining 6.0

Anyone transferred their .pro domains to haxonet? Share your experience.

Encirca's $15 renewal is a rip off!!!

Mart dotpro sold for $500 (domain pushed, payment received), minus the thief charge by Sedo and renewal fees, profit: $270 bucks.

Exactly the point that I was making earlier. Mart is not exactly a category killer but you never know what people are going to buy.

Have not tried haxonet. And $15 renewals suck. Maybe I'll transfer one and see how it goes.

EnCirca is the only registrar I have ever used that does not have the ability to allow you to download a list of your portfolio. Last year they told me "they were working on it."

I have some .pro domains at Hexonet and I can say that it works fine. :gl:

Encirca does not know how to retain its best customers.

Mart dot pro for $500 is a steal, lower than reseller imho.

At these prices it's pointless selling these quality of names, a small development and basic seo would make this a $5k site.

Paintball dot pro does 15-20k visitors / month w/ 30-40k page views w/o any effort on our part.

Wish my .pro weren't an orphan child...

I own one pro, pixels.pro, and it's at Network Solutions. All my other domain names are at Godaddy.. I feel that Pixels is an orphaned child. Sure wish I could get that poor child with the rest of her clan... With Godaddy coupons, my average cost of renewals is under 9 bucks.

I feel the same way. I pay from $7.30 to $8.50 for renewals and new buys at GoDaddy. Curious to know why EnCirca would raise their renewal prices to $15 when they should be trying to lure registrants. $8.99 would be respectable and in line with most other registrars.

I bought Cuba.pro for $350 at Sedo recently.

I can't see much downside risk.

Comments?

"could it be you have the .pro bug ?"

It appears I am in the early stages of the disease :)

I am starting to like .pro. Certainly fits right in with the new gtlds coming out. Maybe the .pro registry will invest some marketing dollars to get the word out when the time is right.

I hand registered http://WantedToBuy.pro (okay to post domain here?) and started up a little side business for buying stuff locally.

Excluding zip .pros, total .pros registered at March 2012 were up 5.9% to 99,115. Tucows, which I assume includes Hover.com, was up 50% in the month to 1,179 .pros. Average daily WHOIS searches increased by 79.2% in March 2012 to 76,907. This is a new record and the biggest % rise since June 2010.

TUCOWS = opensrs.com (for resellers) + hover.com (for customers).
