Question about posting a domain for sale

In the rules about posting a domain for sale it says that you cannot post links to outside websites.

I was wondering if that applies to appraisals for the domain that I want to post for sale.

It was appraised by Certified Domain Values.com and I would like to post the link to the appraisal but do not want to break any rules.

Would a moderator please let me know if that would be OK?

Thank you. :tu:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I believe the rule means that you cannot post to your auction or listing on another site. Why not make it easier on the user by taking a screen shot of the valuation and attaching to your for sale thread on namepros?

That ensures your thread contains all of the relevant information. I would only link it for verification purposes.

Thank you very much.

That's a great idea.

Or, you can put URLs in your ad, but not make them a live link. That way someone can copy and paste them to see the site.

By the way, did you ask for the appraisal or did someone that wants
to buy your domain suggest that you go to that site and get it?

In other words always be careful about taking an appraisal from someone with a vested interest in it when you have to hand over money :p (All appraisals and advice or feedback here is free)

Unfortunately the domain game still has no regulating standards for appraisals unlike for houses, people tend to tell people what they want to hear when they make money and that rarely is the truth you need to hear lol

Thanks nielsencl.

I think that's what I'll do if I get permission to post it for sale in the high priced domain area.

As far as why I got it appraised it is a long story.

Firt off,I am new to the domaining industry and therefore am still a bit naive, I guess (buy I'm learning quickly!).

The day after I listed whitenteeth.co for sale on Sedo I was contacted by someone who said he wanted to buy the domain but would not do it without an appraisal. So I had it appraised.

This is where it gets long and involved. In a nutshell, we email several times. I started to get the feeling that I was getting the 'run around'.
As it turns out he is new as well and did not know that he could not resell the domain for 2 months. Now he wants to find a buyer for me and take a 15% commission.

I am at least as qualified as he is to find my own buyer so that is what I'm attempting to do.

BTW it was appraised at $6,150. Do you think that is realistic? I've seen several of your posts around the forum as I've been absorbing the great information here and value your opinion.

Thanks.

Terrie

Thanks Sparhawke,

The appraisal was done at Certified Domain Value.com. So it was independent of the 'buyer'.

But, yes, now I have paid money to have it manually appraised and the sale did not work out. So I am out that money if i don't find a buyer.

To tell you the truth it is actually a nice little domain, I do not think you should have too many problems selling it though I am uncertain about that appraisal value due to the extension which is still very new..

I do not know where you are located but here is the list from England just by searching for "teeth whitening companies" in Google and going to the top result:

http://www.freeindex.co.uk/categories/entertainment_and_lifestyle/beauty/teeth_whitening/

There should be a lot more knocking around in the world :)

~~~
Did he suggest an appraisal company? If so these are the ones you have to be careful of, people who are serious will simply have a number that they will pay in mind and offer it, they know what it is worth to them...you never should need to pay for an appraisal to sell something, it is on them to do it :)
Thanks again Sparhawke,
I have contacted some companies who sell tooth whitening products. The ones who have contacted me back all said 'your information has been forwarded to the appropriate department'.
So for now I'm just waiting on them to get to back to me.
I'm just trying to explore all options.
What do you think it's worth?
Don't know is the short and sweet answer (:p), .co is very new to get an idea of values though the extension has meaning to a lot of companies which is why in the appraisal forums there is a sticky asking not to submit them yet lol, I would be happy in the ballpark of $1000 at this early stage in the game, it is just shy of being a premium domain but if you wait and try getting something done with it you could be offered more :)
Sparhawke,
He actually sent me a link to a discussion here at Name Pros where he had asked the question about where to find good, honest appraisals.
The response to his question included a suggestion to try Certified Domain Value. So that's who I went with.
Now I know that I should not have paid for it, he should have.
The request that YOU get an appraisal was a SCAM, I am sorry to say. The link you got was to a page on THEnamepros.com, not this site.
I thought the site you got the appraisal from looked famliar.
The good news is you can request a refund from the payment company. Many others have done this and gotten their money back. I need to look something up and will add to this message shortly.
Ok, you can read a lot about this scam and how to get a refund at Domain Appraisal Scam.
If the company did not warn you about this scam, you should also report what happened to Godaddy.com since they are hosting the site and are also the registrar for the domain. Since they have been informed about this scam and have not warned you they either don't care or are involved with the scam.
When you said "request a refund from the payment company" you meant to contact my bank right? I used a debit card to pay for the appraisal.
Who did you pay, SWREG or another payment processing company? If so, then you can contact SWREG with all the emails that you got from the scammer. See the main thread that I posted and look for my posts.
If you used a debit card I don't know if you can get your money back, but you can try. I have heard when someone make bogus charges on your credit card you can get a refund. When they do so on your debit card, that money is GONE most of the time. It's more like paying cash, so you don't have the same protection as far as I know.
SWREG would be the way to go so they know they have a customer that is continuing to scam people or at least not warn them about this. Good Luck!
I sent an email to SWReg. I am waiting to hear back from them.
