£.com posted as SOLD on Sedo at $1000 US today.

The buyer got quite a bargain IMO.It's probably the most well known symbol in the UK + it's a .COM.I'd have guessed high 4 figures at LEAST.
Very cool landmark though! The first public sale of any single character IDN,and a currency symbol besides! Awareness in IDN's is sure to rise tenfold after that.

With the publicity of the sale, no doubt the value of the domain has risen 50 fold just today.

i won't say that lol. They are very good for $$$ and will definitely increase in value later on the track.

That sale was very cheap and i wonder who was silly enough to let it go for so cheap...

Question to all Brits:

How often have you searched "£" or typed in "£.com"?

This was a cool sale, but it seemed to cheap. It would have been more if it was.uk maybe or if it was a dollar sign.

£ has OVT of 1121.
yes i wonder how that works sometimes. It is weird that somebody would search for it.

But it is not the case of searching for it. It has a lot of potential as a site. Also how often do you search for "wfh" or "wyo" or any other 3 letter coms? Why do they sell for a lot? It is because they have potential, and it is the same case here.

This is the one time I cannot understand someone giving a value of "reg fee".I can understand someone saying my £.cc is reg fee because it's .CC and .CC admittedly is not that great.
But wow...£.com...the British equivelent of $.com! Who would not want that?
Firstly it's a one character .com,secondly it symbolizes the entire economy of a huge country. There could not be a more recognizable symbol in the UK.
I don't think the value lies in how many people are searching £ everyday,it lies in owning the defining symbol of your national currency.Any financial institution operating in or with the UK could make a very memorable name for themselves with this.

To put in perspective,I'd wager nobody here has typed in z.com or tx.com or 410.com recently. That doesn't make them any less valuable. This sale wasn't about traffic,it's all about potential, which £.com has much of.
It's really not much different from when someone pays big money for a .US name. .US aren't getting any type-ins unless developed. But the potential is still great enough that someone would pay $XXXX for a great .US name.
This is a COM though! Wow!

I have read that thread, and thought I have gotten a mistake number. Far too cheap I would like to see if the domain works. If I had the funds to buy it, don't know if I would. How often would "£" be searched? get another currency, then that would be kool -sorta,. Nice thread. Zg

I am going to assume that one would need to have the plugin for IDN's in order for them to be able to resolve a (pound).com website correct?
Thanks!
