The ultimate GoDaddy shame! GoDaddy backorder customers smashed in the head!

Spaceship
Watch
If you have backorder credits purchased through GoDaddy, this affects you! Read below!

As of recently, GoDaddy backorders are no longer exclusive. More than 1 person can now place a backorder on the same domain! D-:
If GoDaddy secures the domain, it goes to auction and only the persons who have backordered the domain can participate.

There are thousands of domainers with existing backorder credits which are now rendered useless. We have all bought backorder credits for backorder acquisitions at up to $18.99 each, credits which GoDaddy is now turning into a right to bid on the domain in an auction in case GoDaddy secures it. D-:

It's time to join forces and claim our rights! It's one thing to change the backorder system for newly purchased backorders and it's another thing to smash existing customers in the head and render useless their purchased backorder credits for an exclusive service!

We need to either get a refund or request that existing backorder credits that were purchased prior to the change to be used exclusively!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Not only Godaddy but also for the people purchase backorder from BlueRazor.com, or purchase backorder from WWD - reseller site.

For the people purchase backorder credit from GoDaddy, the domain will go to an auction.

For the people purchase backorder credit from BlueRazor. If they catch a domain, they will not give you the domain nor allow you to engage into the auction.

My case: http://www.namepros.com/domain-name...razor-com-backorder-scam-with-screenshot.html

If you are affected by this change meaning you already own backorder credits which are now useless as the terms of the game have been changed 100%, please post here and let's join forces. Together we can better fight for our rights!

How many of you have existing backorder credits which are now useless? And how many credits do you have?

I got out of that long ago.. When the "Investors edge" 7$ backorders where canceled. IMHO That was the only time godaddy backorders where worth the money you spent on them..

You could backorder a 7$ .info name and then just cancel the backorder and move it to a .com or other. Ahh that was times.. Now they just screw you over like with their other services..

ONLY use godaddy as a temporary station for domains in transfer!

The other thing is now they are locking your backorders. I backordered a domain there and now they've put it to auction and I don't really want to pay higher - yet I can't change the backorder credit for something else :(. Also they told me it's now put to auction yet they didn't give me a link and I can't find the domain anywhere lol :S.

I was informed tonight (by the VIP Dept) that they never sent out a notice about the policy change. I've seen Enom do similar changes, and snapnames as well as many others without refunding fees paid for specific services. I guess they think it's ok and nobody can do a thing with ICANNt running stuff. I have several hundred backorders, and am willing to join forces to address this. Is Adam over at DNF still working for GoDaddy?

I have one backorder at godaddy, and the last time I checked (a while back) I was told I could change it any time I wished.
I am not at all pleased that this has changed with no notification.

Yes, As far as I know, Adam, at DNF is still with godaddy.

with the reduction in domain tasting, it is possible to hand register many of the same names that a backorder service could grab. that being said, when you want a domain - you want a domain, so it is best to cover all your bases and play ball with godaddy.

GoDaddy Backorders HAVE ALWAYS been this way. You backorder a domain, if you get it GoDaddy automatically places the first bid for you at TDNAM... The only thing that has changed is more than one person can "pre-bid" on the domain now....

I have had many many domains I had backordered through GoDaddy years ago and then they go to auction, no matter what.... GoDaddy Backorder has never jsut given anyone the domain after backorder, it has always gone to auction.

EDIT: 500th post!!! I need a life!

Only if the domain was registered at GoDaddy and not in the redemptionPeriod or pendingDelete phases.

I'll be one ticked off mofo if I don't get my backorder. I was wondering why I haven't received my name yet and now I know. None of the support people seem to know anything about this.

This was posted by GoDaddy on another forum .. I hope it helps :

There is a new backorder system that was put into place in late April / early May. All backorders placed before the change are in affect unchanged (if someone placed a backorder on "DOMAINNAME.COM" before the change, only one backorder will be allowed for that name), therefore you may see some names that will not allow you to place a backorder.

Going forward, customers who have placed a backorder on the same name will have the opportunity to bid on the name at a private auction (only for backorder holders). As always, the backorders can be re-assigned if you did not successfully win the auction or capture the backordered name.

Couple questions.

If someone had purchased a backorder prior to the rules change, but had not assigned it to a particular name as of yet, do they lose the exclusivity value?

If 2 backorders are placed on a name dropped at enom (for example) and caught by GoDaddy, but both fail to bid further on the name, which of them ends up with it?

and another question for good measure, has anyone gotten an answer from GoDaddy as to why they never put out a notice (of the terms change) to their backorder customers?

Just try and get some concise info on GD's backordering service via their site or customer service... This excerpt is very misleading IMHO...,

"If your domain goes to auction, we may use your backorder cost to place the opening bid on the domain. If no one else places a bid on the name, we capture and register the domain for you, subject to the rights of the previous owner. If someone does bid on the domain, you receive an outbid notice and are given the chance to place a higher bid or move your backorder to another name".

The keyword is "IF" at the beginning of above paragraph. Correct me "IF" I'm wrong but there is no "If".

the real problem is , as with snapnames and pool , you are enver sure you are bidding against a real person - i suspect not much of the time.

thanks for the heads up - i will tread carefully with investors edge - still works well for .info though as it beats webagentur/rubalier and some other warehousing registrars ..

it really is time someone set up a 'not for profit' , honest registrar, ideally located outside the USA away from much of the litigation worries too ..

I volunteer - I am currently a reseller for WWD , sadly , - I am just looking into costs for ICANN registration - protecting my own names alone would actually justify the costs.

Is GoDaddy gone crazy?

I just received email from Godaddy and part of email said...

"Protect yourself with Private Registration, now only $7.20/yr ” 20% off our standard $8.99/yr price!".
Whoa!
20% discount!

Should I get it?

ha ha I notice GoDaddy charges for a lot of stuff you don't really need.

Never realised their price (discount or not) was that high.. wow! What a rip-off. The $7.20/yr is very high. Moniker offer them for a maximum of $4, but with the discounted pricing I get it for $1.

But yeah, I guess a 20% discount is better than nothing if you have to stay with GoDaddy.

Another reason why I am using Name.com now

... free private registration

... free GMAIL assosciated with your domains

... free from cross selling overkill

and bloat free interface. :tu:
