The Most Annoying part of NameJet

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I had been waiting and watching a dropping domain name for approximately 3 weeks. This particular domain name - "Name"Group.com is 9 years old - my personal interest in it is for a company that my family does business with. Other than that - it has no value.

So.... I must place a BO with NameJet by 8pm today. I wait until the last minute im able to so that no one else will place a bid. Why would anyone else want this particular domain name? About 6pm MTZ. Now, unlike SnapNames, anyone can see the domains that have been backordered.

Now that Ive backordered it - 2 other people have backordered it following me. More than likely 2 people who had no idea the domain was dropping, or believe it only has value that they will outbid me in the hopes I will need to contact them to buy it at a substantial price increase.

What makes this even most frustrating is the lack of "user" names at NameJet. You have no idea who your bidding against. I do miss that with Snap.

Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant.....

BTW - the "Name" is not a highly common name. Its not like SmithGroup or JohnGroup ect. It ranks 307th in popularity in the US. So, its a ways down the list. (.net and .org are taken as well)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
We need some standards in this industry, really. All auction sites should have handles instead of "Bidder 1 or Bidder 2". Its so much better at Snapnames auction. Many of the people I bid against are at the forums, and their handles are the same as their user names here. You can simply PM the other person and sort out a deal.

This also gives more transparency. I know who I'm bidding against. I know he's a real person, not some shill bidder increasing prices.

I feel your pain Justin. I have not won a single domain at NameJet since they launched. I have been backordering but the prices get so high, it's not worth bidding. I have noticed the Quality of domains has been really low. They do show several nice domains in the Pre-Order section, but really, if you look at the Whois, most have been renewed and NameJet just has not removed them from the lists.

Maybe when NJ stops holding back domains... Example RealTimeQuotes.com that should of dropped about a month ago, they had it at auction last week. But there are several more they are just holding and not putting at auction.

Totally agree Justin, its so much harder to get one that goes unoticed - I hate the way it is set up + the fact you can't see who's in the drop with you :td: At least with snapnames as soon as it dropped you had a good idea of what your chances where :hehe:

I also hate it when you scroll through piles/pages of dross and you find a name you like, click backorder - it goes into you account and then returns you to.......nowhere !!!

You have to start the search all over again and find the page you were on before :'(
(if there's some way around this I have'nt noticed it yet).

well..at least they have improved the search a little bit since they launched !

Snapnames is a far better set up IMO - It also gives the little guy a fighting chance.....it seemed to work very well for them too (until they lost the NetSol names)

These day's there is no such thing as a good catch. Either it was missed by fluke or it was already tasted no two ways around it. We live in an illusion. Everything is controlled in the domain market and nothing is overlooked.
No audit means you can print your own money and that is what the Cartel is doing.

Gazzip~ After you backorder what you want, use the Back Arrow in your browser. Back up to the page where you had put the check mark(s) remove the check mark(s) and continue onto the Next Page. This works with IE7 but not sure with Mozilla. I just figured this out the other day :hehe:

Thanks Yofie, I'll try that (and double check it does'nt lose the name !) - we should'nt have to do that would'nt you agree? NameJet just seems so user unfriendly IMO

Ahh well, Cest la vie!

I think NameJet will make a fair bit less money on their names than Snapnames did, they should put the price back down to $60 starting, open it up so everyone can see who's bidding and dump that pre-release crap as its often a total waste of peoples time !

Just my 2P - rant over & out :)

When NameJet started, I was in a few minutes after the opening, thinking I would catch good domains because of the small competition. I was wrong.
They are more expensive, and I haven't seen many good domains there, for reasonable prices.

Who said that Snapnames would die because of NameJet? I keep buying domains at Snapnames... and I haven't bought one at NameJet.

They are doing all they can to drive prices up. Fostering competition is a classic way :)

I am not impressed with NameJet at all. The website is a piece of junk & not user friendly at all. I am also not thrilled with the daily e-mails of the most backordered names, & other lists. I am not a fan of making things easier for people to find & these lists do just that by drawing attention to names.

I also find the quality of names to be subpar compared to Snap. I don't think I am too obsessed with knowing who I am up against as that doesn't really do much. Either I will win the name or I won't.

N.J. needs to step their game up or they won't last long.

namejet sucks, bought many nice domains at Snapnames, they had a much better auction setup where you could see who you were bidding against, sometimes I would have seen the same bidders as in previous auctions so could figure my chances. lamejets auction model is terrible, for fun I would pick useless domain(s) that no one would want and suddenly end up bidding against up to 20 suddenly interested bidders that have no identity. Any particular "good" name that I did want just seemed to get absurdly expensive, I can accept that high value domains skyrocket in price so I expect that to happen at any auction. For the benefit of both namejet and the bidder, there should be transparency in the process by at least allowing bidders to see each other as otherwise it can only lead one to suspect the worst about namejet and its practices. I also believe at namejet, it would be very foolish for a bidder to enter their full proxy bid.

Did you mean this..?!

I had a good laugh when I read the typo in your post! Did you mean to call them Lamejet? As one who has also got completely lost in the user-unfriendly interface, I just loved that typo, whether you intended it or not.

So, in my book from now on, it's Lamejet!

Love it. Lamejet fits prefectly. Totally corrupt business practices. Just the next small step toward the day when the only names which drop (and then only after 10-20 trips to public auction) will be something like gfd-hhjyut-g-eertcdc-ouy.ext. All worthwhile properties will be controlled by a small group of power brokers.

With that said I am keeping my head above by bottom feeding a few leftover crumbs but is very hard work for little reward.

Extremely high value names coming up for auction on namejet soon!

1. namejet is some improvement over enom club. I was bidding against myself at enom, which it did not happen at namejet.

2. namejet sucks, but if the prices are higher at namejet, they must have done something
right for them, at least they are making more money than snap.

I love SN and hate NJ too. But NJ has NS and Enom names. That's the point why I have to use them :( And I had many good deals at NJ too. The prices are not much higher than at SN for similar quality domains. But SN is a way better! I hate that NJ uses only credit cards as payment method. I miss wire transfer as payment method very much.

How did you bid against yourself? Don't you realize that when you place your bid?

Not anymore, SnapNames has now added a Bidders column which lets you see the number of people waiting to bid on a particular domain.

Yes Indeed. Snapnames took a page right out of the NameJet book. Smart move on their part.

Smart move for them... not so good for us, opens SnapNames to domain backorder leeching!
