Top generic .IN names : Mostly now owned by one organization ??

Someone will probably have to research the story behind each and every one
of those.

I'll hazard a guess many of them were bought by private parties.

Whilst I was searching I noticed that Business.in is now owned by "National Internet Exchange of India", I know it was owned by a German gent who had some real gems.

Guess that would have beaten any other .in sales :?

Seems like they're trying to move very, very quietly and make their purchases without making waves in the market.

No. The Indian government seem very upfront about which domains they own.

They use the email [email protected] (which is a branch of the Department of Electronics) and the registrant's name is "Government of India". The Whois for these other domains is very different.

Both ResellersClub.com and IndiaPortals.org have addresses in Mumbai but in different parts of the city.

Interesting - the name IndiaPortals tends to suggest that they're going to develop these domains which would be outstanding for India domain in general.

When I last checked (3 months back) with Chris Hartmann (previous Business.in owner )
and Daniel Fuehrer (RealEstate.in ), they were not interested in selling their domain.

Interesting comments, does anyone know if they are pay top dollar for the names or as Ekal says making moves quiet and getting them at lower prices.

I have had 2 enquires for contracted.in and vin.in jat.in Think I binned the email the offer was not even worth thinking about.

Ekal goes onto say about them developing them and it might bring more interest to the .IN ext.

Looks like Business.in is now owned by NIXI.
I have emailed Chris (the previous owner) and asked him for more detail

Just out of curiosity, I wrote these guys today about 1 of my one word .in domains. They responded by asking me how much I wanted for it.

The reply email came from a [email protected] email address. I won't post the actual name here, but info @ indiaportals(dot)org is obviously Directi

Still waiting to hear if they're interested in buying or not.

IndiaPortals.org nameservers are dns1.directi.com which doesn't prove the case 100% but you may be right.

Most big .com buyers use front organizations. Maybe this is a sign of professionalism coming to the Indian domain name market. Part of that would definitely be "Indian Domainer Business Dominated By Individuals" giving way to big-company buyouts.

these domains were not available for registration at the time of landrush. Both names registry released only on 9th march 2006 and one person registered these domains. Yoga.in also owned by the same person.

Registrar for all these domains is Business Solutions
Registrant organization is Mitsu.

if we check whois records of Mitsu.in, the domain registered on 9.3.06, same registration date of ayurveda and kamasutra. Also Mitsu.in is an accredited .in domains registrar.


for your information - I am one of the biggest registrants of .in names. I registered more than 1000 .in domains. .5% of total .in registrations.

The person I got the reply email from is the senior team leader for Directi. His name is in the email. This was after writing them at the indiaportals.org address.

I remember seeing a bunch of names that were not available initially but released on 9th march 06. some of them were under 'sunrise name requested' status though.

I did some checking, and here is a little test. Check some of your .in or .co.in domains (you can check easily at www.Indomains.net) . See if you have anything like "transfer prohibited", or maybe "renewal prohibited". Then check a name reserved by the government of India like "firm.in" . It has 3 "prohibited".

Now check some of the above names like "education.in" from IndiaPortals. Why does the whois show "transfer, renewal,update, and deletion" prohibilted?
I don't know what that means, does anyone know, and why? Are they bigger than the government of India?

That's probably because those names fall under 'first 60 days transfer restriction' period.

You will probably find that the 9th March regged names where those "sunrise" "tm" type names that worked their way slowly thru the system i.e. in the hopes that people would not notice . TajMahal.in was also one. :td:

There were some very funny goings on with the .co.in/.in namespace particularly with the top 4/5 .co.in names going to one person via a source that appears to now be heavily involved in acquiring premium .in but then I am an old cynic and may be reading things incorrectly.

Indiaportals.org also owns retail.in, famous.in and estate.in, i own the corresponding .co.in's.

As far as i remember, these were owned by an individual and not an organization.

Does any domainer on NP live in Mumbai and can he/she volunteer to find out the people or organization behind indiaportals.org? And possibly give some inputs to all of us.

The Business.in ownership change also needs to be researched.

What's happening behind the scenes?

Looks like we have about 3 threads going on here:

1) Business.in has been sold?!?!
2) There may be some corruption at the top level of co.in names
3) IndiaPortals.org is making a big move in the .in market - who are they?
