OK I've gone through several failed websites so I'm changing my aim.

I want to hear what the public wants - something they cant currently get online but wish there was a place they could.

This can be anything ecommerce,forums,blogs,ANYTHING!

zatch, I have been trying to think of the same thing. But honestly, the public can pretty much get anything online. If I were you, I would build a website that you would enjoy working on and updating. I have a gaming website, there are 100000's of them on the net, but I still enjoy working on it when I have the time.
