Everybody wants a good generic name with shorter

ones having high premium.

what i want to know whether such names

has ANY effect on search engine rankings?

for example "pizza.com"

will the name contribute to the mega hits, for those looking

for "pizzas"

or does the search engine robots just search the meta tags

and page content, and links

wise words appreciated:cy:

I am sure it has some effect but nothing compared to the content and tags.

As you can search google but you will see that the one word .coms will rarely come up unless it is developed.

When it comes to google, it has some effect, yes. But so does hundreds of other things such as pagerank(!), topical links, keyword density, title contents etc etc.

Meta tags are often over-rated when it comes to search engines, they are seldom seen in the SERPs and even more seldom used to calculate SERP rankings. In the case of google, they aren't good for anything, at all.

If I read correctly yes. If not yes anyway because with a nice name more people would probably come making your site more "important" making search engines list you first making more visitors and so on...

as far as google is concerned .it favours domains with keywords in them..google considers hyphen as a space ...domains like buy-cheap-cars.com will rank better than buycheapcars.com (which makes no sense to google) for the kw "buy cheap cars".
but ofcourse hyphenated domain names will get fewer type-ins , but who cares about the typeins when the mass of the traffic comes from search engines

ofcourse this domain name element plays a very small role.there are other major factors which play an important role in search engine rankings

and FYI google does not read meta tags

The odd names doesn't help you nothing when it comes to search engines. When it comes to the odd names you posted, I really can't see the cause of the curiosity, or the use of the names.

The keyword domains do have positive influence in search engines to some extent, but they often come to have a bit of negative influence when it comes to being brandable, if overdone. And having keyword rich names for the search engine and one for the other marketing is not advisable since it will be considered duplicate sites, and thereby punished or just indexed once.
