Jeez... it's just a domain name. What if it's used for donation purposes or whatnot, how can you bash this guy?

Lets ignoral all the issues and APPRAISE This.

Low $XX. Who types Hurrikan instead of Hurricane? No one.

That's the point I'd make.. not likely for type-in traffic, reg fee - low xx.

I have to agree with DB .. many of us will jump on a domain of this sort yet advertise the links to pharmaceuticals and the like without turning the mirror on ourselves.

Personally, I'd rather not register a name that capitalizes financially on a disaster, but domains are about making money.. I won't judge someone who does.

The news media capitalize on human suffering everyday.

Hello All,

I know it's been a while, but I wanted to report back on this issue, just to let you know some of our early results.
The http://Katrinablog.org site is getting about 1K a day uniques.... and making about $0.35 per day in revenue.

Other actions my family and family business have taken:

We have "adopted" a family from New Orleans: A mom and two college-age young men.
They are all three in graphics/tech. One of the young men is a webmaster, and the other was just finishing up college as an honors masters student. The mom is a C++ programmer. They literally loaded what they could in their GMC Jimmy, and got out. Their house was one that was totally wiped out- water to the roof.
They have been staying in a shelter in Mississippi since the storm.

Actions taken: we have secured a laptop from Nvidia corp so they can communicate and received cash donations of over $3700 from our professional network. We have also negotiated a vastly discounted rate on a nice aprtment here in Northern California for them to live in. The discounted rent will last for nine months. We also have had a family donate a 1998 Nissan, and are working with contacts in the University system to get this kid back into a masters program. In additon, we are working on getting the 3D graphics student an intership in silicon valley, and have put the mom on the payroll for some back-end development of our sites.
Lastly, the local folks here have donated food, furniture, etc so they will arrive to a real bed and a full fridge.

SO, what I'd like to say to the naysayers and negativity magnets:
How are YOU making a difference?

best regards,

Andrew

As people like -db- seem to be saying, you cant just judge a domain by its name alone, its what goes ON the domain that matters, take Andrew's story for example.

As long as he doesnt use the domain as a money-maker for just himself, and doesnt give anything back to the affected situation, i honestly see no problem with the domain!
