CBTonline.com - want to sell, not develop.

We received about 1 inquiry per week coming directly from the www.cbtonline.com parking page.

Is it a mistake providing a price rather than insisting on an offer first? We expect the "tire-kickers" and the curious bored with nothing better to do will be the most common inquirers. Being a novice in the domain name resale market, it is important to get realistic valuation first and deal with marketing outlets later.

Don't want to develop this site due to the huge variety of end use applications and most likely anybody else will have something different in mind. Wasted effort = wasted time.

What would be a reasonable retail value?

Thank you.

Most Developers of CBT (Computer Based Training) are small companies, usually individuals who have honed their skills with Macromedia Authorware, Tookbook or Click2Learn.

The CBT market hit rock bottom after the 9/11 attacks on our country. The reason is simple really; when there is uncertainty about the economy, big companies cut their budgets and stop spending. One of the first budgets cut in any company in a situation like this is training. Training budgets get cut and CBT developers find themselves unemployed.

It's not a pleasant experience, let me tell you. I lost a company of 15 employees, my home, my cars, my credit and everything. I'm starting all over again, but I'm enjoying the fresh start. I have a number of friends in the CBT business that lost all, and a few that are simply holding on with past revenues from savings. There are still many CBT developers struggling.

Your market for this domain will be a small, limited market of mostly independent developers who develop specialized training for larger companies like Lockheed, American Airlines, Boeing, etc. There are very few "large" CBT firms I'm aware of, and even less startups that get investing to start a company like this.

I would set the value between 250-500. Simply because you are dealing with the working person here who is typically starting up and has a low budget. An established firm is very unlikely to change their domain, especially in this niche market where name recognition in the industry drives it's success.

If you are interested in selling it wholesale (need a quick sale), I might be interested in it.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Wade

One other note: CBT is used less today. WBT (Web Based Training) and elearning are the latest in the long list of acronyms used through the years (how can we forget EPSS, which I loathed).

CBT is still the most universally recognized acronym though.

Not a whole bunch to say after "professor wade". But he is 110% on the money... you are and will see less CBT and more and more WBT.

Yes, Wade's reply was truely remarkable. Extremely credible with great background.

We acquired CBTonline.com from a customer that had high hopes about his ability in education, training, and web development. He liked the recognizable "cbt" matched with "online".

After the point of no return of not getting projects, he decided looking into the concept of providing a collection of cbt/wbt material at one location thru affiliate programs. He complained about the lack of variety, mostly computer related like Cpanel apps, and cursed the proliferation of ebooks. Big talk swagger and little follow-thru.

We haven't parked any of our domains with pay-per-click search traffic programs and need to learn more about PPC/CPM. Could be an option for the domain name to earn it's keep until it is sold.
