Ok I went to Hostgator VPS and to level6 because I got a lot of traffic. However, they set the kernel memory limit to 50, which is low and more for Level 2 or 3 VPS. It took them 2 weeks to raise my kmemlimit value, losing me a crap load of money. about 200,000 site guests just wasted. When they finally raised it, I asked why it was not raised when I upgraded my account and they said they do not want one VPS overpowering the others.

I said in return, then what was the fraking point of me upgrding to Level 6 VPS if you will just turn away 90% of my visitors?!?!?! They then told me basically that I whine too much and that they normally do not raise this limit for anyone.

I DO NOT recommend Hostgator VPS to anyone with real traffic.

Hello,

I apologize for the frustration you have experienced. I would just like to clarify a few things. The kmemsize limit is the same for all VPS accounts of any level. Due to the amount of resource limits your server was using Bobby increased your kmemsize limit to alleviate the amount of traffic. This is not however a common practice and was done so we could ensure your site came back up. We can not warrant any credit or discount under these circumstances and apologize for any inconveniences.

The kmemsize limit is the same across all VPS account to ensure that they do not collectively use too many of the entire server's resources and compromise the entire server.

Ok, so I pay for 1.8 GB RAM and because it is a VPS I will only get 36% of the RAM I paid for? Douchebags.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You have 200,000 sites?
Wow...must be super rich.

You should get your own dedicated server. Instead of VPS then.

I said "site guests" smart ass.

I have dedicated too. However, LEVEL 6 VPS should have handled this particular site and DID handle after they raised the kmemlimit that I paid to have raised.

I saw that comming. So did you switch host yet?
Or are you still with Hostgator?

No, I ordered another dedicated and went to godaddy dedicated, which is good as long as you do not need their support. I only need cPanel support from tiem to time, so I just put the tickets with cPanel instead of Godaddy, Godaddy support is useless.

Dedicated hostgator is just too expensive, the support is good with dedicated with them but still the pricing is insane.

Thanks for your review. This is the first review I have seen of their VPS hosting. I have a small VPS with igxhost.com and have been very happy. You should take a look at them.

That is the rule and I suppose you agreed that when ticket the TOS and AUP

Well, no the TOS said nothing of this. Infact, they told me:

Hello,

I will note your recommendations and look into having them added to our terms of service for the VPS accounts. I again apologize for these issues but our VPS accounts.

So, the TOS said nothing of the kMemLimit limitting the amount you pay for. I paid for 1.8 GB RAM and it capped out at 36%.

Let me clarify something. The final day that I had this service, I lost 90% of my traffic, all shown "FORBIDDEN" instead of my website. My RAM was only at 36% and my CPU at just over 75%. Otiginally I thought I had only lost about 60% of my traffic, but after closely looking at my logs, it was closer to 90%. I would have had well over 200 K pageviews that day if not for this crap. I only got about 20K.

Also, this happened many times. The first time they said that if I upgraded to a higher plan, this issue would go away. In reality, after upgrading 2 levels higher, the issue was identical. They kept the Kernel Memory Limit the same even though my RAM was upgraded to 1.8 GB.

You'f better find another web hosting company for that. Do not waste your time. Just discuss this beforehand with your web hosting provider.

Well, I have moved the site to a new didicated server now because the downtime lost me thousands in conversions. But, Hostgator in general is a great host, just their VPS is a bit misrepresented. They make it seem all powerful and it isn't.
