This is a warning about the namepros member VisionEdger http://www.namepros.com/members/26714.html. This person was parking some domains with us and was issued a chargeback by our upstream provider. This person complained on namepros and our internal ticket system about us not paying him, but we hadn't been paid ourselves. So I decided to do some investigating.

Almost every one of his clicks in a two month period were from the same two ip addresses everyday. He had logged into his account with us at least once with one of the ip addresses that he was also clicking out on his domains.

I checked a few of his highest revenue domains from the previous month (March 2013) to see if they had been banned by Google for click fraud and a few of them had. But I also noticed that most of them were not in his account anymore. I originally assumed he had more accounts, but then I found that he had been selling the domains on namepros.

Based on the facts, the person was clicking on their own domains, they were then selling the domains on namepros, then our upstream provider was determining that the domains were bad because of the click fraud and banning the domains. So ultimately the new owner of the domain was out the money they paid for a domain that didn't have any legitimate traffic and now the domain is banned because of the original click fraud as well.

This is just my experience with this person.

I am going to assume so, yes.

All that for $45 D-:

But I am surprised that the IP address wasn't flagged automatically - it's the least sophisticated form of click fraud.

Just an update: Like we discussed in PM Donny, I've sent the member in question a message asking them to update any of their current & future sales threads with a notice that discloses any and all domains that have been banned from the google ads program due to click fraud. That way potential buyers aren't being taken advantage of expecting to get a revenue generating domain.

If he fails to do so, then we'll have to take further actions to help protect the members from shady dealings.

Update: The member has denied all allegations and is refusing to let buyers know about the domains they are trying to sell. I have sent a final 24 hour notice to the member letting them know that my attempts to be fair / nice about this and give them an opportunity to make things right them self expires in 24 hours, at which time I'll be forced to close their account to protect members and launch a formal investigation on their account.

I have also linked them to this thread in the event they wish to provide their own defense against said allegations.

Update: The member has removed all their sales listings recently so no further actions are required at this time (I appreciate the cooperation). In the future, we ask that members continue to report any suspicious activities. It's members like yourselves that help keep NamePros safe to conduct business for everyone.

In addition, this member seams to be a spammer too, this i received about a month ago without asking for anything (i had just registered the .com domain Social/Amigos and posted it in "your reg of the day", thats all) - first i didn't want to report it since the member was active since 2006 and i thought ok nevermind, one email is no problem, but then i saw this thread, and some of the names he mentions included info about income at voodoo, so i thought i should post this:

Hi

Thats a great domain you have relating to Latino people as we also have been hand regging mainly Spanish .co's however.

Presently we need to sell domains due to medical bills so we wanted to make a few Np posters aware of the offer.

We contacted you because we felt possibly you may have an interest in looking at our list and see if any jump out at you to buy . If so we are open to negotiate a fair price with you

anyhow if you are interested in the list please send us your email.

many of the domains have some revenue starting at voodoo since jan 2013 ytd

some examples are:

soft-ware.co - has made $75+ in 3 mo at voodoo start jan 2013

esilver.ca - has made $73+ aat voodoo since jan 2013

piloto.co

toros.co

mexicanas.co

ranchos.co

haciendas.co

lahotels.co - lahotels.com sold for 100K in fall 2012

granja.co - farm

frutos.co- fruit

experiencia.co - experiences - has made $23+ since jan 2013

as your post mentions, we wanted to also start a latino community relating to these various domains but we have no ability now so we must try to sell what we can

you can email

visionedger at lycos dot com

if you want to see screenshots and list of domains let us know

we will quote you a good $ on bulk sale too

thank you for your time

Just to be sure, this isn't a legitimate user account that was hijacked by an impersonator ?

So he sold dodgy domains and he's not banned?
Not even temporarily?

Seriously? I got banned for a period for making my profile black text on black background (after being warned)... What possible benefit is there to keep him around? Are you going to continue to monitor the activity?

In six months he will still have positive trader rating ! Who then will notice?

Can't we at MINIMUM give him a negative trader rating?
Give him a "you suck" badge?

Are we relying on Donny to keep looknig? Kate? In six months no one is going to search and find this thread.

The member has removed all domains that they were accused of using the aforementioned tactics on. If in the future they should try to use this tactic again, their account will be closed and they have been made aware of such penalty for a repeat violation.

We will continue to monitor, spot check, and address any reports that stem from this member regarding their NamePros activity and account.

It seems to me like sweeping dirt under the rug and not really fixing the core issue. This guy is a scammer, and he got caught. But now because he deleted his fraudulent sales threads, he's allowed to hang around?

Eric, there should be a no tolerance rule for scammers, period. IMO.

@sbweb. No dirt was swept under the rug, the situation was addressed, the member received disciplinary action, they removed the domains they were accused of using unethical traffic techniques for clicks on someone else's parking site, and their account is still under review. While this may not be the answer you wanted and you're unhappy with second chances or all members not being banned for making mistakes, the situation was taken care of for the time being. ;)

we'll continue monitoring the member. I value your opinion and appreciate you taking the time to post it.
