I'm not sure if this is the right category to post in, but would like to make other aware of my recent fraud case, which luckily didn't get too far!

I was recently contacted by a "David Abramson", with regard to a domain I had listed for sale.

He emailed me asking how much I would accept for the domain, to which I replied and then also informed him that I had a further 21 domains I would like to sell too.

He came back with an offer, which I was happy with and told him I would accept.

His next reply was that I *have* to get all the domains manually appraised by a reputable appraisal company, along with a trademark check.

I told him I was not willing to do this, he was the buyer so it was his responsibility to check the value of the domains before making me an offer.

He continued to tell me that I MUST get the appraisals or we can not do business.

At this point I started doing a bit of digging around and noticed that his domain (web-name-service.com) was recently purchased and 301's to webhostingclue.com... maybe this was some sort of mask to make him look like an important person?

After a bit more searching I found a couple of testimonials (in Pastebin!!!!), which explained the seller had a good experience with him, AFTER they had got their site appraised.... (18 hours ago as of writing this, is when they were put up)....Something just seems too fishy to me... I've told him to stop contacting me or I shall put his domain in my mail fiter blacklist.

Any of you guys heard of this chap?

I wonder if he is mailing many people at the moment??

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
...short and sweet response...anyone requiring an appraisal from me had better get their house in order and take care of it themselves. That scam is way back from the 20th century yet some domainers still get snared. I have never and will never pay for an appraisal.

If the buyer is sincere, the buyer already knows what is going to be done with the domain name so I need not be bothered with that nonsense.

Either buy it or good-bye...

That was my thoughts exactly. I've not been buying/selling domains for long, but I could smell something was up as soon as he mentioned the appraisals.

There's a Search button somewhere at the top of this page here at Namepros. Type "appraisal scam", and just read all the threads about it. I think it will take you 3 days to read them all. Good luck.

I GOT SCAM BY THESAME GUY early this year about 200 euro for appraising my domains ( actually i wass still very new to domain industry then..so i got burnt first time)...he has smart method ...send you great offer that you may not even try to reject..refer you to one kind forum to deceive you and make you think that he has been paying different seller he do buy domains from...asking you to make an appraisal for the domains he want to buy...by refering you through the previous forum to website like Authorizeappraisal.com , ...funny enough the appraisal company will apprase your domain with a very high value...then coming back to him to discuss payment...he will reply that he's client has just purchase very big portfolio of domains and he will not want to make further investment untill after 2 months...and that you still sell your domain by giving him 15% commision on every domain he will help you to sell...he will then refer you back to the previous appraisal website to list your domain there (27 euro or so)...the you get SCREWW UP....AND SEE YOUR FOOLISHNESS IN A MIRROR like ME!...lol

BE careful friends\

Never involve in Private selling Except who that have undisputable success record..Never pay for appraisal as a seller...Do refer buyer to great website like sedo afternic godaddy and others if they are serious with what they want..

My one cent please

Confirmed What I Suspected - Thanks!

I'm glad I found this thread.

I was contacted yesterday by this same 'organisation' (this time using the name Aaron Fisher, [email protected]) with an offer too good to be true.

Thankfully, I'm just disposing of some unwanted domain names rather than a professional domain seller, so the old adage of "if its too good to be true, it usually isnt" applied. After some digging I found this thread.

Sure enough, he's demanding that I get them appraised although he seems to be quite free to let me choose where I go...not sure how he benefits from the scam, but as this company has come up and it doesnt pass the "smell test" I wont be dealing with him any further.

Actually, the old adage is, "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually (or "probably") is." :tu:

They let you choose ... then they "find" something on a forum warning about how bad your appraisal choice is and how much better their scam appraisal service is.

All their communication is scripted and all the emails in these scams roughly follow the same set of templates. Their "company" domain usually resolves to a parked page, or is redirected to a site they don't own. And you can bet the name of the person sending it is fake.

Same thing here.I have just received this email, only one night after parking some domains at Sedo:

"Hello!

We are interested in purchasing lowratecreditDOTnet I found it was for sale on Sedo.

Please let me know your price. We are interested in purchasing.

P. S.
If you have more items for sale please let me know your auction links.

Best Regards,

Robert Schneider

CEO

Low Cost Hosting Solutions Inc."

After a small research I found that his company, where he is CEO of course is 20 days old. Also I found this post on some small forum:

"Thanks to Robert Schneider (domain-business at lowcost-hostingDOTcom) for all the help with selling my domains. We were able to sell at the appraised value (appraisal was from really good professionals). It was nice doing buisness with you."

I didn't even reply
