Warning GoDaddy adds website tonight to your orders!

Regged a domain and found out that during registration on the bottom of the screen that is hard to read due to the large amount of SPAM , godaddy adds WebSite Tonight Economy - 5 Page Web Site - Monthly option to the checkout page. They add this now to all purchases with out your approval, you have to remove it before checkout - they charge your credit card on the 2nd month... I find this very disturbing that they are squeezing this in with out you selecting it, that way if you dont notice it you get billed on 2nd month!

FYI: I registered a couple of domains yesterday and that did not happen to me. This sounds like a bug more than a new practice. If true, it's bad news for Godaddy.

Okay. I'll give it a go now and report.

Update: I just went through the standard "no thanks" buttons at the bottom of each page. There was nothing added and nothing checked that had to be unchecked during my shopping experience.

I just tried it as well, and it wasn't on mine either.

Might be just a bug/glitch, maybe something preset on yours?

check your shopping cart with no domains in it; see if anything is there.

Sorry to read of your troubles. Though it has been quite a while ago, periodically we have noticed similar issues over the course of the past couple of years. Typically the problem vanishes as mysteriously as it appeared. As a precaution, we like to ensure we are on an actual GoDaddy page and not an affiliate or sub page from another small seller, as sometimes happens.

Take a look at the toolbar to ensure there is not a pre-existing code or additional jargon after godaddy dot com. Sometimes these affiliate pages or sub-seller pages auto-add services to get commissions, funds, etc; from unsuspecting buyers.

At any rate, though there are glitches that can happen, we tried several times but did not see the add-on mentioned in your post. However, we will continue to monitor the situation and update everyone should we experience any suspicious activity or similar findings. We hope you all will do so as well. You may want to alert GoDaddy Support about this issue, especially if it continues to happen. Their number is 480-505-8877 (also found on their homepage in the uppermost right corner of the page.

---> This is a good reminder for us all to inspect our GoDaddy accounts on a regular basis, ensuring all information is correct, any credit cards being saved or stored on file are there because you choose, all paypal accounts match and are up-to-date, and all names you want to renew manually vs. automatically, are set properly according to your choice and are tied to the proper credit card or Paypal account.

Thank you in advance for bringing this issue to light for us all. As another precaution, we recommend clearing all cookies, closing out of windows, fully rebooting and then running your virus checker to ensure your system is clean, clear and free of any malware or spyware.

Sorry for the lenghy post. Happy Domaining to all.

-Regards

at godaddy, there are so many options, it takes for ever to go through all the pages before you complete the check out.

Cache, that can be a downside of going cheap vs not. Their express checkout does wonders though.

I had some problems with Express Checkout too. Doesn't that register/renew for 2 years and doesn't it bypass your Domain Profile?

Agreed. Express Checkout will default to two years and bypass the profile. Though before paying any needed changes can still be made. EC can be a good alternative when in a hurry to get regs/renewals done.

I found them to be about the same length of time. Without Express Checkout, I just click straight onto Step4 and continue from there. No need to make any changes in the checkout.

UPDATE: While testing a .CA code we noticed the process auto-added the Website Tonight free trial. We noticed it in the 'Review Shopping Cart and Order Summary screen.' We simply chose to remove it.

However, of all the extensions we have tested codes for this weekend, this .CA test is the first time the Website Tonight feature was an auto-add.

At any rate, just wanted to share our findings with the group. It could be a promotion they are offering with .CA names. If it happens with any other extensions we will follow up with our GD Rep at that time.

A good reminder to keep our eyes peeled and always review our Shopping Cart and Order Summary carefully, prior to continuing on to the checkout and payment screen.

Hey
They added to my cart the same thing - WebSite Tonight Economy - 5 Page Web Site - Monthly (recurring).

Can anyone tell me how to cancel it? I looked but could not find.
Thanks a lot!

When reviewing your cart, be sure to click on "remove" if you don't want the item.

If in doubt call support.

Looks like this behavior is triggered by adding certain coupon codes.

OK guys, I also recieved two bills in the last 2 days to pay for "WebSite Tonight Economy - 5 Page Web Site" In all I had 4 domains that they were billing me. So I just finished calling them and here's what they asked me to do:

- Sign in to your Godaddy account
- Click on "My Account"
- Click on "My Renewals & Updates"
- Click on "Payments & Renewing Items"
- A new window comes up showing a list of your domains on the center column
- Every domain will have on the top line something like: ".COM Bulk Domain Name" (or .NET, .ORG etc Bulk Domain Name)
- Go down your list till you find a domain that has the following written: "Website Tonight Economy" (instead of ".COM Bulk Domain Name") and tick the box on the left
- Tick the boxes of all the other domains with the "Website Tonight Economy" written on the top line
- Next click on "Cancel Item" (just above the domain list)
- Next on the right column it asks you to confirm if you want to cancel this
- Click on the radio button that, YES you want to cancel
- Hit SAVE CHANGES

Thats it.

In my case the lady who attended me asked me to wait a minute or two just to confirm that the changes had taken place.

She said that a Refund Request had been placed.

Just shows how Sneaky, Unethical and repulsive some firms have become in the internet.

The lady also said that this "WebSite Tonight Economy - 5 Page Web Site" used to be free but now its a paid product. I'm not too happy with that answer.

Hope that helps
