![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hehe why don't you muck around a bit? Go for his scam but continously advise that you paid the fee and you do not understand what they are talking about (when they point you to the company to pay to appraise your domain name). Clearly point the finger that you did pay. Finally tell him he sounds like a scam, you are out some money and whatever else you'd like to add. That is if you are wanting a little fun. |

![]() | I’ve got the same email a few days before from a guy from TGN Technologies (cohen@toughguy.net). Have been warned about this scam in several forums, I decided to follow the story to see what happen. Take a look at what I got.
I quoted the value, then…
I didn’t want to go for any domain appraisal, then he replied…

![]() ![]() | I got the same sequence of emails this morning, first originating from TGT Systems <cohen@toughguy.net> and then the replies followed from "Cohen" with the same email address. What a waste of time, please everyone - avoid any email that sends you to a dummy forum on domaintalk.ourplace.com (the link I received was the exact same as the one hathhai got) These emails are just more annoying than anything, I'd say some unexperienced domainers could fall for it though... hopefully he won't get too many!! ![]() | Brian Meredith TGN Software Services meredith@toughguy.net This is what I got on 09/03/2007: 1 - FIRST EMAIL Hello, We've found your domain for sale after visiting several auction sites. Please submit your price for consideration. We are in software development and support business (contractors of large corporation) At this time we are considering domain invetsing and reselling as additional dircetion of our investment strategy. Looking forward to do business with you. Regards, Brian Meredith COO TGN Software Services 2 - I INFORMED THE PRICE AND THIS IS THE RESPONSE I GOT Sorry for delay with reply. I was celebrating newborn child of my sister. Now let's discuss our deal. 00,000 USD. Ok. Do you sell domain with a web site or just name? If just name it's ok. Web site is not necessary. Have you had your domains appraised already? Can you show me your valuation certificates? As fas I know it's a common practice to show appraisal of domain name (even without traffic and web site) before doing business. Without appraisal I risk to overpay. In other words I won't be able to make a profit on reselling this name. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domains. Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging an appraisal company with REAL manual service. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate auto-generated appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust. To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/857391.htm Just check this posting. If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10% - 15% discount of the appraised value. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=317467 After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations. How do you prefer to get paid: www.escrow.com, www.PayPal.com check or wire? Hope we can come to an agreement fast. Looking forward to your reply. 3 - I WAS JUST LOOKING ON GOOGLE FOR TOUGHGUY.NET AND I FOUND THIS POST Thanks for posting this information here! Obviously this is a scam! Rick |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Is this scam still around? Wow ![]() Works the same way as it has for the last couple years, they just keep changing a few details. I, and others, have written lots here about it... pretty simple process: 1. they email that they're interested in your name and ask you your selling price. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=317467 2. they reply OK to any amount you tell them. 3. they say that you must get a professional, personal appraisal for your name to prove its value. 4. they refer you to a url that takes you to what looks to be a forum discussing domain appraisers. **it is a FAKE forum page that they faked to look real**. 5. on that fake forum page, people seem to be 'bashing' other appraisers, but saying that one is very good. The one they say is good keeps changing name, as too many people catch on to one set of names they create a new set. It used to be allfordomains.com, now I see they're using domainsecondhand.com. Ha. 6. you go to that site, pay a huge whack of cash for a 'personal' appraisal... which actually looks suspiciously like all the auto appraisals you can get anywhere else, ha. 7. you supply this to the 'buyer', who then mysteriously loses interest in your name, comes up with an excuse that he's found a better name, or just ignores you and you never hear from them again. They've made their money on the scam appraisal, so they no longer need to pretend interest ![]() If you look at www.domainsecondhand.com, and then go www.allfordomains.com, you'll see they are exactly the same. Layout, info, everything. I could say a lot more, but it gets tiring re-hashing it about these geekeroonies. About 2 years ago my domaining pard got taken in for this scam. Then the next time it happened, we had some fun with it, played it right through (without doing the appraisal of course, just lots of talk back and forth), then started to pretend to act suspicious, then started to research whatever we could on them - ip address, where they're from, the names and businesses they used, etc... then we got really serious and said we were notifying the FBI, that this was a huge fraud and they were committing a serious crime, that we tracked down the names of people they were impersonating, called the companies whose names they were using so they could take them to court, etc, etc, really went to town telling them the 'steps we took each day', and they were literally SCREAMING at us over the emails by the time we got tired of it. They were swearing, threatening us in bad English (they - or some of them - are foreign), sometimes being apologetic and defensive. Anyway, boy these guys get tiring. And they're still making a lot of money obvously, no one's shut them down yet and there are so many newbie domainers every day for them to victimize...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I got such scam just today, slightly changed though, from ferguson (at) toughguy.net. Those scammers like to use such e-mail services, with such type of interface. All times I got such scam were on freshly regged names, looks like they really hope to scam newbies. And, Bannen, please delete links to those scum appraisal sites because second one contains backdoor and trojan in it. Or, Moderators, please do it ASAP because it is really dangerous. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=317467 We are interested in XXXXXXXX.us Your name was listed for sale. Please let us know your price. Our company provides IT security services and performs security audit of local and global networks. Our clients are mainly based in Europe and Canada. So investing in names is an additional direction of our financial strategy. Looking forward to do business with you.
