.mobi as usual is overhyped garbage. The lack o f action on most names shows how long this extension has to go. I Europe.mobi legitimally sold for that, it is what it is.

Not when at the same auction there were weaker .mobi keywords selling for multiple times the value - your opinion of .mobi aside.

"it is what it is" is not an answer that is comforting to the seller, I assure you - and wouldn't be to you either if you had a name that was a hallway sale for the reserve just to move merch. The hallway was not a .mobi phenomenon, it was a DOMAIN NAME issue - take your beef with .mobi back up to the .mobi subforum

Let's keep perspective that first, .mobi got into the auction, two, it is only six months old, and three, it outsold many decent .coms. It absolutely SMOKED .us, .tv, AND .gd (sorry kev). This should've served to water down your fire. The proof is in the puddin', puddin.

off if he had a reserve on it! Isin't that why we have them?

They took them offline at 11:35 as more and more sales got posted that hadn't taken place during the "live" portion of the auction.

To those who say that so long as the reserve was met, no one got ripped off - I have no concise why to say this other than the incredibly inelegant: "Bu!!s!!!". No offense to equity and others who have expressed this opinion, but to say that a reserve being met means that the sale/auction is above reproach isn't correct.

When you submit your names for AUCTION, you submit them for an AUCTION - which wasn't what was happening at the end of even the broadcast portion of the auction, completely putting aside any hallway action or later.

That's like saying that eBay should be able to publish every reserve price and offer to immediately sell any item that meets said reserve... It turns the reserve price into a "Buy it Now" price, which I DO NOT think is what most folks who submitted names for AUCTION were expecting.

I really hope that isn't lost on people, especially the folks at Moniker and Traffic for any future auctions.

Many folks here got great results, some didn't - My congrats to those who did, condolences to those who didn't. But the success of some does not allow a "wash" of the misfortune of others.

It appears that "ripped off' is incorrect but irrespective if a reserve was on a name that reserve was based on the fact that seller expected a "live auction" - that obviously did not happen with Europe.mobi and others and I do not think it would take a very smart lawyer to argue that and negate any sales. JMO

If people don't like the way it was done, come up with your own option. I'd bet anything it won't have anywhere near the recognition of their auction.

I imagine you started this before my above post, so I'll keep this brief, but that logic is just dead-wrong, and misses the point of having this, or any, auction.

Tell me why the eBay analogy is wrong (I know of only 1 reason, which is more of a strawman argument than it is critique.) and then we can move on - but the chip on your shoulder over .mobi is clouding your judgment I'm afraid.

And while "Hallway-gate" may be the scandal that isn't, what happened at the end of the auction amounted to "Reserve-sales" rather than auctions.

I'm holding off making some observations until speaking with some who were there, but it's clear they were losing the market and they moved domains with a "you bid you buy" kind of mentality (How many times did we hear the auctioneer apologizing in the last 30 minutes for "missing" bids after he called it.).

I'm also thinking that the "closed nature" of the auction was compromised at some point, as the auctioneer asked on a number of occasions for "Whoever it is that's playing with the red dot please stop" - a laser pointer I assume - and hard to believe a conference goer would think that fun/appropriate.
