The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
BTW, I have a question regarding Hyphenated-domains.
Is anyone doing good with these?

Thanks!

My hyphenated domains never peformed well as parked pages as the direct type-in is absent. However they have been doing great at WP.

my domains never performed :(
One of mine did in 2008, but revenue has been on a downhill run this year. A good performing mispelling domain in 2008 with a rpc of sometimes over $1 has been performing badly in 2009. It was still doing well in Jan 2009 with a couple of days earnings at $12 per day but started its downwards plunge late in Jan. It has gone from a high rpc of $1.09 for a couple of days in January this year to a low of $.001 for one day in May this year. The number of clicks are also down by more than 50% in some cases. Something amiss somewhere!!!

Ok. I just wanted to clarify something. Our RPC is set to 2 decimal places which means that you can NEVER make less than 1 cent on a click. Not sure where some of you are getting these clicks from. :)

Seabass - Sorry, I was at a show in DC and actually took a few days vacation. I have not seen a drop in any areas except for "loans". Are you seeing something else?

I would be interested in the future as well. Last pay period was my worst in a long time, but I am not sure if it was just a blip or a sign of things to come.

What is the future of parking and Parked.com? Part 1.
This is definitely an interesting question. The future of of domain parking is whatever you want it to be. This is how I see it.

Parking in it's purest form is when you have a domain that has traffic already, the domain is sent to a parking company and they monetize the traffic for you. In our case we have been doing this since 2001. The problem with this is that most domains that have a lot of traffic are owned very few people.

The other side is people who have domains whether they are good with no traffic or just random domains and they want to try and monetize the "domains with little or no traffic". This is why we purchased WhyPark, what they do well is take domains with little or no traffic and help you get listed in the search engines.

One other thing to consider is who is your target audience. If you had a domain about funerals for example and you know people like to do a lot of research, the surfer would probably get a much better experience with a WhyPark style domain then a Parked.com style domain. But it's all about the surfers experience.

Then next thing to think about is what will the advertisers think about the traffic you are sending them. If you have a domain with three dashes and it's a .bz, guess what they are not going to like you one bit. If I can make one recommendation to everybody, .com, .net, .org, nothing else! Think if you are an advertiser and you are getting traffic from a domain and you can't figure out why you have gotten 10 clicks today from donnysformerpornsite.com to "car insurance", you probably wouldn't be too happy. I always love getting calls from the mesothelioma attorneys complaining that a "surfer" just signed up with his site and put in all bogus information. So what's the most important thing in the future is that people will finally realize that it's not always about me, but it's about the advertiser. They are the ones paying the bills.

In the next 6-12 months this is what I see happening.
- Microsoft, Dell, Verizon, Cadna, and a lot of the other big TM owners will start filing lawsuits against everybody who owns even a single TM of theirs. We already block about 99.5% of all trademarks and will continue to block more every day. I don't want to get sued for a domain you own and trust me there are already parking companies who have settled with some of these TM companies. Yes, it sucks to have to delete a domain that is a TM that makes money, but when you realize that they can charge your over $100k per domain, trust me just delete them. And just using some private whois service won't work in the long run.

- My Turkish and Chinese friends will continue to cause problems for us and all parking companies. I don't mean to pick on people from these two countries but 95% of all fraud with us comes from these two countries. Now most of them claim they live somewhere else now, but we still know who they are. Fraud is bad. If you were to spend the same amount of time doing things the right way, imagine how rich you would be.

- Yahoo will still be Yahoo. Still stuck in the their own world where there are only 60 countries in the world.

- Google will make some major changes, that will cause some major problems for their parking providers. You don't think Adsense for Domains was just something for them to have fun with did you?

- Microsoft/Bing will actually try to get into the space. Realize that they are so far behind and want people to sign exclusive 3 year contracts.

- Run of Network will rule the world and drive us all crazy. RON is when you search for some stupid keyword and people are paying for it no matter what. They pay awesome numbers and in countries that nobody wants to pay for. The problem is they in many cases pay more than the real advertisers that you want to see.

- Direct Advertisers. In the past 3 months I have had at least 30 different advertisers contact us directly who wants to bypass Yahoo/Google. What's good about this is that we all make a lot more money because the middle man is out of the picture.

- One or two parking companies will be kicked out of the game for either low volume or low quality scores. I'll assume that these will just be purchased by another company. I also think that at least one company will be purchased as well.

This will be part 1 of a x series. :)

Tremendously insightful post Donny!
(of course, repped)
I want Parked.com to keep evolving through these "changing" times.

Thanks!

Thanks, Donny.

I'm no parking expert, that's for sure, but I put a lot of time in on both sides of PPC, and one thing I'm seeing is the *local* PPC is growing. On my developed sites, even on sites where CTR and eCPM is down, the actual EPCs (RPC) are much higher. I have more and more smaller clients wanted to do local advertising, and on my sites where I run local ads, the returns are way up. If we could find a parking feed that could somehow deliver geo targeted ads for goods and services - that would be killer.

this was especially intriguing and exciting --

Hi Donny ,personally I dont like you but ,I must say something for your streotype , these people are pretend to be from Turkey or China ,actually they are not , they have some computer knowlodge and they seen from these countries proxy etc. In Turkey ,fraud is an ashamed thing however for example in Russia it is not an ashamed thing. Why do you see these people from Turkey because buying parking accounts is legal in every internet forum in Turkey.Honest people sell their parking accounts in order to make neutr the domain expenses also fraudsters cheat honest Turks. Therefore most times banned accounts from Turkey. These person's have lots of nicknames.1 or 2 people buy this accounts in Turkey however a 1 person cannot be represented by the whole Country also some of them have direct relations with parking companies they share the revenue. You dont look from the parking companies side , I know some people have direct relations with parking companies ,parking companies allow these people, Some people offer fraud to companies and companies accept. You can never say this is wrong to me.I am in the domain business at least you are in.

What's the point? They just like overspending or they don't know better!

vjack - Buying and selling of a parking account maybe be legal in ALL countries, but it's against the TOS of all parking companies. I will stand by the fact that most of our fraud comes from those two countries.

Simple solution for all those honest Turks and Chinese then.

Open a Turkish (or Chinese) parking company and all your fellow men can buy an account! Since they're all such law abiding people, they will have no problem getting and protecting an Ad feed with Google or Yahoo, maybe even both because they are so honest!

Since now you becames rich and famouse in Turkeys and China because of my advices to you, I would expects you to "throw a dog a bone" and compensates me handsomly or at least to provide cheaper rate on buying accounts as my tradition. I waits yor replys

L2

what the bull shit?I don't understand what you say, direct please.

Developing is hard , you spend a lot of money and you will be very tired. Some people buy traffic domains but domains actually have no traffic ,even some registrars sell these domains. Some registrars cheat their customers by selling fake traffic domains so your money is lost.
Having legitimate traffic is only help parking companies with high tq score because some parking companies generate fraud revenue.Companies earn fraud revenue easily ,with Loosing money ,working hard legal domainers earn little.Helping companies stay stand with your real traffic and you earn little, you make rich some companies. So that I understand fraudsters why they choose this way , if you dont want to make fraud , you will not do domain parking.Companies ban who generate fake revenue by himself , fraudsters must deal with middleman fraudsters who have direct relationships companies otherwise they will be ban even not getting a cent.
I wanted to show this dilemma.

Fraudsters choose hard opening accounts to buy , They are not interested in instant opening accounts, L2 tried to ridicule it but he didnt realise ,fraudsters also cheat honest people ,fraudsters say that they sell it to account buyers, honest people say ,I will sell it but you will not make fraud then fraudsters say my customers dont want loose their accounts.
And you must realise fraudsters pay small amounts for this accounts , they say every lie in order to buy accounts.
buyer is fraudster , seller is not ,please understand it.Sellers are being cheated ,advertisers are being cheated by fraudsters.

Donny - Please look your in your facebook profile persons ,are some of them from Turkey or Chinese? I said this because some of industry leaders are the fraud leaders and they are not from those countries.I dont say all your friends fraudsters but you know everything more than me.

I receive many PM messages at NamePros and other forums from people wanting to buy my Parked account. Usually their forum account has already been closed by the mods before I read them.

A few may be from honest people who can't get an account on their own because they do not have enough quality domain names to qualify but I would imagine that most are from scammers. It's a bad idea for anybody to buy or sell parking accounts.

Click fraud occurs from every country. If Donny says the majority of his fraud is coming from Turkey and China it must be true because he is in a position to know. Nobody is suggesting that everybody from those countries are crooked - but the ones that are cheating are giving those countries a bad image.
