The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

If they are all well focused on the main theme you've chosen - and if they don't sound silly - it may be counter productive to remove any.

Assuming the best paying related keywords are automatically chosen to appear at the top (and it would be good to have Donny's confirmation on that assumption) removing any of them would have an obvious downside - even when they are replaced by keywords that weren't visible before.

If there is a good reason to remove the related keywords appearing by default, then it would be a matter of testing and checking whether the upside exceeds the downside.

That makes sense. I could see it hurting especially in cases where your domain's keyword is broad and could apply to many things. The rest are probably best to test as you say.

My problem seems to be of different nature. I'm a bit reluctant to change or adjust keywords on my money makers, i would just like to know where the differences from one day to another stem from?
It's almost a cycle. 1 great day, followed by 3 days at 50% of the 1st day, then there's another good day, followed by 3 days at a lower % and larger adjustments of final values. I'm not complaining, only wondering as i'd logically like to retain the great days, even though the 3 days in between are acceptable and profitable.
Logically, my fear about it is that if i adjusted keywords, i'd lose the great days.

I guess for the time being, i'll continue the rollercoaster ride until someone can shed some light on what's going on.

How we choose keywords is something that I really can't explain, but I will say that we don't just take the highest priced keywords and put them at the top. Price is just one part on how we decide what keywords to display on a page. We also have 22 other factors that are included to determine the keywords that go on a landing page.

Personally I never remove keywords from a domain, unless you own a domain like visa.org and you want to make sure that "credit cards" don't show up on the page.

Donny

Less than three hours on a Sunday night.

That's how long it took to get an authoritative response to a request for confirmation of an assumption buried in the middle of my post.

Many thanks Donny, and apologies in advance for raising expectations.

At the risk of contributing to your algo getting closer to Google territory, would it be technically feasible to add another factor: whether the keyword is one of the many "wrong-word-order" phrases that the Yahoo search stats system seems to generate quite frequently.

What I mean is could the system be programmed to minimize the appearance of irritating search phrases like "names domain" (using a hypothetical example)?

I know it sounds complicated to do, but the basic checks shouldn't be too difficult at concept level.

For instance, if "names domain" shows a much lower Google page count than "domain names", then "names domain" is slapped with a minus five trillion penalty and "domain names" is introduced into the list of related keywords in its place?

The reason I suggest Google page count being used for this specific filtering purpose is that (unlike search counts) it is a very useful indicator of whether or not the phrase makes more sense to humans than its reverse-word-order equivalent.

Had my best day ever at parked couple days back.

Wish I had this internal issue resolved so I start monetizing my names better. Donny and crew I am sure will get things fixed up for me. Miss the feature of the tumbs up lol. Been weeks.

Curious anyone having any luck on forex names and mesothelioma terms? Its killing me to see that I can't start earning some money on these.

I brought my porn names elsewhere as an experiement. Have couple at parked still. I have to say this, parked has the best templates for this area. Who knows maybe I will bring them back here.

I don't like to Change things around but as every domainer knows, you have to experiment and see what's what. Add some names to parked.

Any one that has mesothelioma or forex stuff let me know. Any insight would be huge.

My other part of stuff is casino names and can't seem to bring traffic inn here. A lot of niche stuff and foreign extension.

Hope tonight picks up and tomorrow. Want this the highest paying period so far.

Just need more names getting more traffic.

Thanks donny in foLlow up and yes it makes me feel at ease hé is always keeping us posted and work. Hope parked is taking good care of you donny and you get a big fat pay check and options! Ha! You deserve it

Mobi Cheap - What you are talking about is Yahoo's "canonical form", or what I like to called the FTW. Basically Yahoo internally stores everything in "canonical form" or ordered by the first letter of the keyword. So "britney spears" is stored as we normally see it, but "george bush" is stored as "bush george". You normally see this used more on domain that go to 1 click than anything else. And unfortunately I can't change that. But if you are seeing keywords on your domains that are in "canonical form" please let me or your account manager know and we can have them removed. As they really shouldn't be in our system. But I do like your idea on how to solve the problem, we did the same thing about 5 years ago when Yahoo first implemented it. :)

Jeff - We still can't replicate the problem you are having with the optimize portfolio. Do me a favor and send me an email to [email protected] and I will have one of our developers send you an email about it, because I actually just logged into your account and modified stuff myself. As one last try, try it from another browser or another pc if you have one. Just let me know.

hi Donny-
i have 1700 domains with Parked and not being able to optimize in bulk is a major problem for me. i know your technical department can come up with a way for users to edit keywords, title tags and custom content in bulk from a .csv file. this is not a difficult thing and would be extremely helpful (to say the least) for those of us with hundreds of domains. can you please ask your technical guys how i can make changes to my portfolio by uploading a .csv file or spreadsheet?
thanks for addressing this issue.

I wouldn't expect all of those things anytime soon. We are currently rewriting the core part of our system right now and since I am the CIO/CTO and all of my programmers have a deadline right now, they are a little busy. We do have plans to have a mass modify available, but right now I'm not sure what you will be able to modify. I wouldn't be able to tell you until the new system is ready.

Sure it's not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth. If you have a bulk list of keywords only that you need to change your account manager will be able to do it. But it's only when there are corrections, not if you want to change "speed stacks" to "asbestos attorney". :)

thanks for the answer Donny. since you do have plans to offer a mass modify option in the future, please consider the three items i mentioned (keywords, title tags, custom content) to be part of this option.

Donny --

Here's a strange one for you.
I have a domain that's been in a coma for the last 6 months. I originally had it parked at Sedo, then I moved it to Parked in July of last year.

When I checked my Sedo account just now that domain (I'll send you a PM with the name) is showing 20 visits and 1 click yesterday, 8 visits and 1 click so far today.

I double checked the name server settings at Godaddy and the domain is still pointing at Parked servers. The last update corresponds with the July 2007 date that I moved the domain to Parked.

I double checked the domain in my browser and it's coming up with a Parked template.

My Parked account shows no visits for that domain yesterday and only 2 visits with 1 click so far today.

How is this possible, and why is the majority of the traffic and revenue not flowing through my Parked account? :(

Thanks donny for help and double checking.

Will check tomorrow.

So your revamping the whole system. That sounds like a huge order to do. Can't wait to see system donny.

Can you tease us some in what exactly will have or extra cool features added?

Your template and pictures rock.

One feature which you have thought about I am sure is like what sedo has but better results and better ctr and rpc lol.

Say for instance I have a domain called

Mesotheliomalaw.tv

In USA key word would be mesothelioma

In Europe keyword could be mesothelioma attorney

In Japan it may be mesothelioma lawyer

And etc

That would be a cool feature to add donny.

So donny hearing this about what your team is doing and program stuff do you advice us to keep spending hours in changing things around, with keywords, customization, tittle changes and etc or hold off the amount of work we have until new program is up?

Thanks again donny. Can't wait to see this.

I was curious, does the CTR of a domain affect the quality score of the account? I noticed that days following a day with a low CTR the $/click is also lower. :(

Yesterday's finalized stats are out. Had almost 10% drop which is a big improvement on yesterdays 40% drop.

It's funny that you mention it, but I had actually noticed that, in the last few days in relation to your stats as well as a few other peaple's.

This shows that a lot of us are still ridding the rollercoaster.

I dropped 28% after the numbers were finalized. :'(

I'm at a total loss here - no idea what really contributes to that. The rollercoaster ride seems to follow a 3 day pattern, but i can't put my finger on why that is. Anyone else see a time pattern of any way or fashion or is this all just in my mind? D-:

Questions about stats update:

I have noticed that when stats update, then:

1. Visitors always go up (supposed to go up, so not complaining:) )
2. Generally visitors/clicks/revenue all goes up at the same time also.
3. But sometimes clicks actually go down! Why is that? Btw, even in this case visitors and revenue goes up....so not complaining :)
4. Sometimes clicks don't change, but revenue goes up. Again not complaining :)

I just want to understand the stats' updates, thats all. I do like the fact that revenue always goes up :)

Are there different servers for various stats such as 1 server for visitors and revenue, and 2nd one for clicks?

Thanks.

If we estimate that you had 100 clicks, and Yahoo tells us 75 or 125 clicks we combine Yahoo's number with the number from our other providers and change the estimate clicks to final clicks.

The CTR does not affect the TQ score. It's all based on the total number of clicks.
