The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. The final week of the 2009 sales season saw the kind of light overall activity you expect over the holidays but it still produced a pair of impressive six-figure sales. Setting the pace was a $350,000 blockbuster handled by NoktaDomains and another solid six-figure sale from Sedo. Three country code domains and a pair of non .com gTLDs joined the usual complement of .coms on our new Top 20 Sales chart. You can get all of the details here: CookingGames.com Serves Up $350,000 Sale at NoktaDomains as 2009 Domain Sales Season Comes to a Close

Our final Top 100 sales chart for 2009 was also completed this week – you can check it out here: DNJournal.com Year to Date Domain Sales Charts

wtf is this real? CookingGames.com $350k!!! I don't even see this as a $xx,xxx domain. One has to wonder about this one. It could be an attempt by noktadomains to drum up hype.

Look at the other 3 they sold between 6- 9K. 3word, 31 letter .com ?

This is the last week of 2009 report so either the perfect end user came around or someone wanted to spend some profits for tax purposes before the end of the year, I would bet on option 2 here, to anyone that want's to lose 6 figures at the end of 2010 or at anytime please keep me in mind as I actually own a few that are worth 6 figures. :hehe:

LOL

i have cookinggames.com.au - registered it a few years ago.

Search volume is incredible... not sure it justifies $350K though!!

This might shed some light on the situation:

Cookinggames.com sells for $350,000 – WTF ? | DirectNavigation.com

As you'll see, the new owner explains...

As you'll read at the link I posted above, it ought to be that all girls' games domains go like hotcakes. It's not about the "cooking" part of it...

The world works in mysterious ways, domains are no exception to this. Good luck to the seller.

I just bought 2 game domains, did a quick scan found one that had a 2000 history available so grabbed the singular & plural, not looking to sell just always interested to test niches of domains I never bothered with before.

Thanks for sharing the link Dag. After getting over the initial shock and then reading the link it's all becoming clearer. I would love to know where else, apart from Noktadomains, these buyers look for their domains. But so would everyone I suppose.

Sorry, but the sale is still obscure to me... What are 'cooking games'? :)

I'm calling BS on this.

Yes, I read the new owner's comments. I'm still calling BS.

If this figure is accurate, that was a real stupid move unless it was just a "because I can" purchase. He has some nice domains, but the development on them leaves a lot to be desired. This is very typical of people who pay a lot for domains, so who knows......

Not sure what all the surprise is here.... the domain was simply bought at 8Xyearly PPC revenue....Yes, a little high, the general unwritten "rule" used to be about 3-7 times yearly revenue, but 10X is not unheard of...

Inspired by this story, I regged SearchCookingGames.com, It has a nice Keyword tool Exact search of 1600/mo...and certainly worth the $7.00 to me....

On HallpassMedia.com, Bill Karamouzis says he "owns one of the highest quality domain portfolios ever assembled". DollDressup.com was registered in Jul 02, if this is so valuable how come the .info and .biz aren't registered? If BakingGames.com, registered in Jul 04, is part of this highest quality portfolio ever assembled, why are the .org, .biz and .org domains not registered? In fact, only the .co.uk and .net are registered for BakingGames.

someone could be willing to pay at a stronger ppc revenue figure than most for tax purposes as this sale happened in the last week of the year, good way to drop some cash before tax time, not saying he didn't want the domain just saying overpaying a bit kills 2 birds with 1 stone kinda deal, now he has a domain he likes and now his taxes will be lower.

Why do Hallpassmedia.com websites earn so much PPC, when I type the URL keywords into Google, I often don't see the domains listed on the first page? Also, in my opinion, the sites don't appear to be that well developed. I tried one of the Flash games and it was very basic. All of these issues lead me to the same conclusion as Dubx4.

Most of the hand regged or dropped domains that I paid $7 for and sold for mid to high XXXX to end users were all .com domains and the rest .net .org .info .biz .us were wide open to register, .com is king as far as type in traffic goes and other extensions available just means people haven't caught on to your niche yet as most of my sales the extensions sit wide open until a sale is announced and then some get taken if the buyer of the .com doesn't grab them, I have also seen other extensions taken on quite a few of the .com domains I own but then they get dropped next year, I'm assuming because they don't see the type in or ppc revenue that I see on the .com version.

I'm not a fan of DNJ or the sales reported there. I suspect many of them are bullsh!t. I suspect the report was designed to send traffic to the company that supposedly sold the domain.
