Anyone else registering 3D domains?

It seems that 3D is going to be the the next must have technology, according to the big brands, they are all launching 3D TVs.

I attempted to find good 3D names but the best domains are already taken, I think in 5 years time or even less, those generic 3D domains will be worth a lot. :imho:

Anyone else registering 3d domains? Do you think they have a future?

two points..
1) - you, yourself, have probably preached to hundreds of people before about the value in NICHE .. 3d IS a niche market...like it or not - it is what it is... talk to me in 5 years and see what happens with that niche, but a niche no less
... PLUS .. many new people are going to want a piece of the niche, whether dropshippers or small startups... you guys act like once 3d hits, there will not be ANY NEW businesses thereafter... how would a new startup looking to make waves NOT want a cool-ass 3d name to market?

What will be valuable for the public in the near future, may not be for domainers at this moment. (samething for the public that aren't in the 3D peek of desire!) At this precise moment: nobody can really predict the popularity of the 3D gadgets -- only the consumers will dictate if they want it or not.

That would be a feature added to existing real estate sites. Not something that you build a new site around.

Look at the 360 degree virtual tours that came out several years ago. Should a real estate company have branded a site around that? Of course not, and they won't do it with 3D either.

imho, if a company provided the 3D service B2B or B2C, relevant domains might prove to be valuable to that company. I can certainly see players trying to disrupt the industry by wooing homebuyers to their site with the promise of 3D tours. Obviously, competition will drive the big players to incorporate the technology into their own sites, but I can see independent brokers/agents/startups offering 3D. If it generates more leads and closes more sales, (and the costs are within reason) it will certainly be adopted quickly, just like the real estate industry is embracing video now.

The 3D argument is exactly the same as the .mobi argument. Each is based on a concept that the website is so differant that it needs to be marked as such somewhere in the URL.

Don't forget that .mobi was backed by the endless potential of the mobile internet (a far greater array of products and new services than 3D). All websites built for mobile devices were supposed to be on .mobi domains. It didn't work out that way. Just like websites with 3D content will not need "3D" somewhere in the domain.

Watching the oscars tonight and saw 3 commercials for Samsungs new 3d led. Very exciting. In the past hour I have got 6 unique hits on my site. Like it or not 3d is here and the demand will be there.

Serious, but I wasn't really talking about 3D domains. It was just for Froy who thinks he has $1M+ 3D domains that were just registered. I was just saying, there are no $1M+ domains that were registered after the boom era.

what is your definition of the "boom era"?

if you're saying it is impossible to handreg a name that can sell for 7 figures... (or any name regged in last 5-7 years)... with great respect, I have to disagree with that statement. IMHO, I believe that opportunity is possible now and always, until domains are no longer needed/used for navigation (if that day comes). There are strategies to increase your odds and though the opportunity is extremely rare, it is not impossible.

I wish everyone in this thread the best of luck, but there is a simple saying to remember:
