Lots of .tv's in the news all around the world as they are part of Youtube's plans to make certain channels subscription only:

...had to put an entry into my blog after I seen this thread. My thanx and props to Ronnie for the heads up...

Cant see this plan to make people pay will go very well but time will tell.
Good exposure for some .tv's & maybe revenue stream for anyone with development dreams at least.

We can all be 'experts' Ronnie... Only a few become experts.

I don't expect to sell any of my .TVs for 7 figures or 6 figures and the vast majority probably won't sell for five figures either. It is unlikely a Fortune 500 company is going to brand around a .TV when they have the resources to get any domain they want.

But isn't it odd that my .TV domains more often get better offers and sell at higher prices than my .COM domains? Maybe because I didn't start acquiring .COM domains fifteen years ago. Most of my .TVs were acquired in 2009 and 2010.

I must say, looking thru this thread, that I don't see, or read, anything leading one to feel members here are 'revolt' -ing. :-/ Really seems like a quite docile thread actually. Interesting how 'some' simply interpret (read: misconstrue / sensationalize) things, for their own agenda!

..perspective I guess.

There are large companies on blogspot so that criteria in itself doesn't mean much. I'd rather we just let his reputation stand alone and not worry about his tools....lol

It means everything if you're a domainer.
I've never heard of a company on blogspot (and that's probably my ignorance) but nobody should use a subdomain platform to run a business.

Not their entire business. It's not unusuall to see the "blog" component run there though.

Example:

ThePeloton.TV has blog at http://thepelotontv.blogspot.com

Frager has a big ES.TV ad in the middle of his post.. not sure what that says.

He is a paid pimp from Google

Owen Frager's post(s) on this topic are (seemingly) well written and thoughtful. But none of that matters when you claim to be an expert on domaining and then do something as foolish as building your website on a third-party-owned subdomain - does it?

...I dunno. I may disagree with him on this column but just because he utilizes a blogspot means nothing, at least to me.

He is an intelligent and diligent writer and deserving of reading his analyses, whether I think they are correct or inaccurate. The modus operanti that he expresses his thoughts are irrelevant...

I agree. I know that plenty of people are making money off of Tumblr as well. There are a LOT of people that don't host their own solution (this is what CLOUD is). Just because you mask that with a domain name don't mean shit to me.

I could host my WP on wordpress with a custom URL. Still hosted on wordpress. Still a third party. A $10 reg and a DNS change makes that much different to someone's credibility?

A LOT of people do this:

Wow. What a difference.

I would say I don't care what someone writes on, but I will say a lot of people do have a negative connotation with regards to that. Because I don't think its a negative does not mean there are not many who do and yes some will not read or buy from people that take what they deem as the "lazy" or "unprofessional" route.

I believe I read somewhere that Frager did this because he believed it would help with ranking on Google, but I read that from third party so I am not saying that is what Frager said.
