My dot tv profits have been burning a hole in my pocket lately so I began looking for some more dot tv names to acquire. Of course, my pursuit could begin no where elese, but the healthy DOT TV Names Pro sub forum. I came across a few different threads that contained posts by some members who seem intent on spending their time campaigning against the extension (should I be surprised?).

Having recently traveled to a small town for a weekend vacation to enjoy some of the less mainstream things in life, my mind began to wander...

Imagine living in a small po-dunk town where the most exciting thing to do on the weekends is go to watch the regional hockey games. Let's suppose the town folk have been doing it for countless years and enjoy the fact that its not mainstream and that it continues to grow albeit at a slow and steady pace. Now imagine some guy who is a fan of (Insert favorite professional sport here), let's call him the ANTI FAN, shows up and sits in the stands screaming that the fans waste their time attending the games, following the players, or memorizing the statistics. The ANTI FAN knocks the sport, claiming its not a sport at all and never will be, and lodges attack after attack against the general sport at every opportunity the ANTI FAN gets.

Do you think the fans would eventually silince the ANTI FAN? In real life, everybody knows that the ANTI FAN would get beaten if this were to happen. That is why in real life you don't see ANTI FANS opening their lips because of the consequences. They know that if they haven't anything good to say, then they should say nothing at all. I don't think everyone has learned that lesson here.

The following analogy isn't perfect but it doesn't take an idiot to realize the truth or what is going on here.

Imagine the dot tv forum being the po-dunk town, the dot tv enthusiasts are the town folk who watch the regional hockey games on the weekend, the dot tv discussions in the dot tv forum are the equivalent of the regional hockey games, and the guys who come into the dot tv forum and try to rain stink on the dot tv extension are the ANTI FANS.

On the Internet, the ANTI FAN wastes his or her time and the time of others (how considerate right?) by attacking (with a vengeance) the extension, those who speak positively of it, and anything that that suggests dot tv might offer some people a great opportunity to make some money. Or better yet, the ANTI FAN strikes down every example where someone has made some decent money on the sale of a dot tv name or website.

ANTI FANS are the trolls of the Internet who hide behind their screens, typing absurdities, and who destroy any joy one might receive while visiting the dot tv forum on rare occassion.

Nobody--not even the dot tv fan--expects a person who is interested in acquiring domain names to become a fan of dot tv or the extension. That would just be a bit on the ridiculous side. It is definitely not an extension for everyone, BUT we definitely DON'T want ANTI FANs in our town.

The ANTI FANS are making me want to come to this sub forum and engage in discussion less than ever before. Am I the only one that feels this way? Is there nothing we can do to combat the ANTI FANs? Should I spend some of my dot tv profits to pay them to leave and get a written signed agreement from them saying they will leave, agreeing never to return? What is one to do?

Do you have a story about an ANTI FAN in your life or when you encountered one in your life? Tell me today at ANTIFAN.tv!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The analogy that you present is a good and fair representation of the events that transpire here. It appears more pertinent and colloquial than my humble offering. However, I find the rationale for the ANTIFAN lacking in one respect.

The reason that I undertook the Don Quixote and Sancho parody for this group of heroes was the statement that was made a while back by the man of La Mancha as to why he was constantly on the board of a forum he has no use or respect for.

I will paraphrase his statement herewith:
It was to save the newbie from purchasing names in the .tv extension because it's no good.

That little nugget of altruism got me to thinking, all of that time on this board, posts and posts, and the only reason he does it is for the good and welfare of the newbie! That brought tears of joy and appreciation to my eyes and set my creative juices flowing.

I then remembered a similar literary character, riding on his ass, fighting a gallant crusade and lost in time, kinda like our resident Quixote is here. A Sancho pops up and he has another to carry the banner when weariness overcomes him.

Altruism is a funny concept. I find it highly suspect, especially from those who have a vested interest in another extension. What lengths would they go to for delaying another extension from growing in popularity.

I concur that .com has little to fear from any extension, let alone this one. This extension(.tv) is but a branch on a tree, filling a few niches rather nicely and providing endusers with less expensive alternatives when the .com names that they want are in parking lots with unreasonable and untenable prices.

But I digress. The valiant conquistador and his sidekick fight this battle for the good of mankind, as only he can. May he carry on til' he once again reaches the shores of the 20th century he so richly desires.

The ANTIFAN(s) of dot tv focus mainly on the dot tv extension to protect newbies? Does that mean all the newbies that might waste their time on any of the other hundred plus extensions don't get the attention of these ANTIFANs? What would be the rationale? If the ANTIFANs are all about public welfare, wouldn't the ANTIFAN's crusade be better served on larger extensions? The number of registraions in dot tv don't amount to anything close in dot com, dot net, dot org. But I am guessing the crusade is personal against the dot tv extension for reasons that we can only speculate.

You need to read Cervantes to explore the "rationale" of Don Quixote.

I have been a little too busy reaping profits from dot tv since I read the free eBook "How to make money on Dot TV." Maybe someone can give me the cliffs notes.

First off, Im just a complete noob at domaining, and I know almost nothing, although I do live in the real world.

I could see .TV becoming as big, even bigger, than .com for certain types of content (streamed video). we have been watching moving pictures and sound on 'TV' for 50 years. Those two letters are not going away anytime soon (if ever).

TV is a strong term.

At some point 'Hoover' became the word to replace vacuum cleaner in everyones mind, because it was short and catchy. Then, Dyson invented his 'revolutionary' (!) vacuum cleaner, but we still call them 'Hoovers' here in the UK, because it works already.

I dont think unrelated words will do well though, crossword.tv for example.

I might be wrong, I have been before :|

If one looks at the sales reports of SEDO, Afternic, Godaddy, there are far more .COM sales than .TV so yes flipping .TVs is not an easy task. However, .TV names can be nice for branding and I am hoping in time that will result in an increase in demand for .TV domains as .COM owners tend to ask for ridiculous prices (this week someone on Twitter was looking for domain for a family-oriented blog. I have a .Net which would fit well for sale for $250 while the .COM registrant is asking for nearly $6K).

I remember an equally odd, yet similar thread once here in the .MOBI Forum™ ... of course, we all know what happened to that extension. :guilty: :ghost:

Yes there are many sport and entertainment options I don't find particularly appealing even though I realize there are segments of the population which do. We all have different interests. I believe the .TV community already realizes its limitations and doesn't need the anti-.TV crowd to constantly make their presence known. You don't like .TV. Good for you. If you don't like soccer, hockey, racing, baseball, wrestling, theater, fishing, golf, etc why are you here?

jeff, you are like a used car salesman, you never give up, but we'd expect nothing less from a groveling domainer. Keep it up! I just have a few more dot tv names to acquire and your scare tactics will only work so long with the new people.

As all the dust settles, I think folks here are starting to see through all the recent hype and chatter, IMHO. :gl:

Be well,

When the dust settles, you could actually be wrong even if you do overuse smileys like a fifth grader.

Why do I say that? Well, last night I sit down to watch some TV. Why? To take a break from reading what the latest Antifans are saying about the dot tv. What show am I watching? Two And A Half Men with Charlie Sheen. Not my favorite show but I am just looking to eat my popcorn and zone out. The episode wasn't great but wasn't bad either. My favorite part of the show actually happens after the credits roll when the creator of the show flashes some hilarious message on the screen for a brief moment. The small, sometimes lengthy text cannot be read in that brief second so you have to pause your DVR to read it.

Well, guess what, this particular episode's slide was about the death of Sideways Smiley Face so Jeff you ruined my night because you use too many damn smiley faces and so I thought of you when I read the message!!!!

Sideways Smiley Face
(1982-2010)
Sideways Smiley Face died on March 14, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones. The cause of death was over-use. Born on a Computer Science on-line bulletin board at Carnegie Mellon University, Mr. Face devoted his life to pointing out that the previous sentence was meant to be funny. He also gained worldwide recognition for his tireless efforts as a glib substitute for the words “I’m amused.” His other interests included frowning and winking. He is survived by his children, Sideways Surprised Face, Sideways Glasses Face, Sideways Abraham Lincoln Face, Sideways Santa Claus Face, Sideways Pope Face, and, of course, his beloved wife, XOXO. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Face’s family has requested that people use actual words to express their feelings.

Can we get back to discussing .TV's now? :gl: :talk:

Thank you,
